Looking for ammo thoughts for an IMI Model A.
I noticed that there is a big difference in the overall dimensions of some 9mm target ammo...compare UMC to WWB and you find that the UMC is shorter overall with a softer radius to the curvature at the top of the bullet. The WWB is more conical and a bit longer. For feed purposes, what have you found works best? I understand that ever individual weapon will vary a bit, based on factors such as wear and fit...but based strictly on the stock specifications, what is the most reliable round for feed purposes for the UZI? Grain? Manufacturer? Type? |

Is this a semi or full auto?
I have a FA Vector uzi so I'm not sure if there are any parallels with the IMI guns but I haven't found the specific ammo type/brand to be that important, rather all the stoppage problems which I've encountered have been magazine related. In particular those cheap blued steel mags are absolutely terrible and I had nothing but problems with them. Eventually bought a handful of the parked IMI mags and threw the crap ones away...problem solved for me. But I've only shot about 3 different brands of 9mm through mine (Winchester white box, Hirtenberger, and lots of local reloads) so I am by NO means an expert. If you continue to have problems you might want to ask over at UziTalk.com probably get more focused advice in the forums. Sorry I can't be of more help. |

Its a semi-auto...it has an old magazine...havent picked up extras yet but will be doing that soon. Planning to put a bunch of WWB through it one night thing week...I'll see if that helps. Hearing that others found the UMC loads weak supports what I encountered. I use it in my G19 and it works like a champ...probably need a bit more kick to work the uzi bolt...lot more steel to deal with.

I would have the bottom to the bolt polished (reduces drag when live rounds are in an inserted mag). A polished feedramp and chamber wouldnt hurt extraction and feeding either. The mags could be a problem, so could a worn out recoil spring. I did those mods to mine and several customers UZI's and the problem disapeared. Have you torn it down and cleaned it well? Whats the condition of the buffer in? What kind of lube are you running? Are you runnung it dry or wet? If your UZI is tuned properly it should eat any ammo, sub gun ammo, including hollow points, and sub sonic ammo. |
