Hello, Im not sure if this is the right place but has anyone removed the front sight on a Rock River  CAR A4.  It has a fixed front sight and I would like to change it to a folding one.  The sight looks pinned on and not hard to remove but im not sure.  It also has a 16" wilson barrel and the flash hider looks like it needs to come off too but I have heard it is welded on?  Im not sure if that is true or I might be able to thread it off.

Any help would be SUPER!

What ya need to do is take a wrench and unscrew your flash hider first. It shouldn't be welded since it is a 16" barrel. If it is a 14.5" barrel then the flash hider would be welded on to meet the legal requirments.

Then you need a hammer and punch to knock out those pins to remove the front sight base. Also if you want to keep your existing gas tube then you have to use a small punch and hammer to knock out the roll pin in the gas block and then take some vise grips to pull out the gas tube.

Then put the gas tube in your new gas block with folding sight and install the roll pin. And then install the gas block. And finally put the flash hider back on.

Also if you have regular handguards you should take them off before doing this work. If it is a free float tube then you can leave them be.

THANKS!  After your post I Just decided to give it a try and POOF!  The flash hider came off!  thats great.  My local shop said they thought it was welded and I needed a gunsmith.  I have not taken off the sight cause I need to buy a few punches but it looks easy.  Thanks again for your help!  Your my hero!

Also note, the pins drive out from the left side...
