It seems like a lot of companies are simultaneously trying to develop the next great 308 battle rifle.  So, which one do you all think is the most promising or the one worth waiting for?

Sorry, wanted to also add the "XCR Heavy M" and "Kel-Tec RFB" as poll answers but appearantly there's a five answer limit.

Its a crap shoot.   FN and the masada almost look as if they share some of the same lines.   you could  say that any Company trying to standardize the AR type in .308(magazines, uppers and lowers) will be around    Now do we want direct inpengment or gas piston?

the older designs still hold very strong and I'd still take my FAL with a good red dot on it over the newer designs that are coming out

It's really almost impossible to say since several of the options aren't even out of testing yet.  Don't count out the HK 417 either, it's already seeing service overseas from what I have read.

There wont be another great battle rifle.

While new designs come along, I don't see them gaining the popularity in the civilian market that the main 4 - M14, G3, FAL, and .308 AR variants - have enjoyed, for a number of reasons.

As for military application, the KAC SR25 has secured itself for the precision applications in the future, and any procurements of non-precision .308 rifles or carbines will be small purchases for niche applications at best.

It's not the "XCR Heavy", but the "XCR-M". But that said I would take either one, the XCR-M or the "RFB".  For me the XCR-M would be first on my list. Alot depends on how well the "RFB" is made.

I only shot .308 in a bolt gun... I have a M1 Garand as my heavy hitter in .30-06. I see no reason at all for me to invest in a .308 semi-auto combat rifle platform.

The rifles are big, bulky, heavy, and I never see myself needing that type of rifle to defend myself with. Sure... the .308 is a fine cartridge and the rifles that chamber it are fine.

But I think 5.56x45mm is more then enough for Miami, Florida.

I'm pretty sure the SCAR-H will make some headway in to replacing the M14 in service.  Will everyone get one like they did with Garands and L1A1's for regular infantry?  No way.

Im a big fan of the Masada, not sure whether it will be put into place, but in a .308 you can't go wrong

I think the AR-10 will continue to dominate the mbr role. I guess the only to improve it is adding a piston system.

XCR-M and RFB are 1 and 2 on my personal list. The SCAR-H is most likely to have the greatest impact/sales.

What could change things for me is if the 308 version of the ACR has available magwells to let me use all common mags. (one for FAL mags, one for M1A mags, one for HK mags, and perhaps one for SR25 mags). That would be a feature worth having that would set it apart from everything else.

RFB and SCAR for me...

None of the new stuff for me as I've got a couple FAL's, M1A and enough mags and parts kits to cover any shooting needs for me and a couple generations beyond me.
