They make arsenals in 7.63x39, 5.45x39 and 5.56x45 www.arsenalinc.com/about.htm but it's an AK so matter what caliber, it should be Wolf. |

at least a 9mm handgun with lots of mags glock HK sig somthing like that A second handgun Also good quality lots of mags mine happens to be a .45 An AK lots of mags and ammo a .308 for precision if i had my choice i would go AR10 or somthing like that so i can have a high rate of fire and precision in the same weapon. although i dont have this it is out of my price range at this time An AR 15 more or less the same use as my Ak just more accurate , and i have mine set up alot different than an Ak can reasonably be set up A 12 ga shot gun is also a must and can serve many purposes I also have a kel tech 9mm sub2000 which takes my glock 9mm mags just so i cant use the 9mm ammo i have loads of for some mid range work if need be |

Everyone should have: A semi-auto rifle chambered for an intermediate cartridge of the AR-15 or AK-47/74 type. Another of above said rifle for a backup. At least 20 quality mags for each. At least 5000 rounds of ammo, with some stored at your bug out location. A quality, reliable, full sized handgun (cough cough...Glock...cough, cough) in either 9mm or .45. Another of above handgun as a backup. Same # of mags and ammo for handguns. A smaller, easier to conceal handgun, hopefully in same caliber as full sized handgun above. Another of the same. Same mag and ammo situation. At least two of any holster you carry above pistols in. Other holster options, ankle, IWB, shoulder, are good to aquire as well. If you can swing it, a full sized high powered rifle with optics is nice. A simple 12 gauge shotgun with 18 1/2 inch barrel is a good investment. At least 250 rounds each of buckshot and slugs for said shotgun. 500 rounds or more of birdshot or other hunting shells. Phew!!! ![]() And a large dump truck to haul it around in! |
5000K of ammo per caliber? Is 5 million rounds per caliber enough or should I order more? Could I get a discount? |
Yep. That covers the basics (I might add a .22 rifle... everyone should have at least one). You may expand from there, of course...

keep it simple, shoot what uncle sam shoots ensures a surplus ammo supply 12 guage shot gun pump or semi you choose scoped 308 bolt action rifle semi auto 308 rifle 5.56 semi auto rifle 45acp or 9mm pistol (having one of each isnt a bad thing) a good supply of magazines and ammo for all of your weapons once you have the basic's branch out to the other calibers if you want exotics.. doesnt hurt to have a few holsters or a molle vest or an lbv or a mav or somthing to haul mags around |
That reads like my "want" list from when I was 12 years old (with some modern additions ).While it's a nice post-coke binge "I won the lotto" buying spree, it's the opposite of practical. Every person should have a pistol and centerfire rifle. I'm partial to the Glock 17 and a quality AR15 carbine for such a recommendation, but it really doesn't matter much. |

I will not go into brands. I will say the minimums Barebones--a working gun little better pistol and long gun prepared Handguns carry gun back up gun Spare of each (right after you shoot the MZB is not a good time to be without a gun) Trainer either a similar action 22 or a conversion kit long guns shotgun rifle/carbine fo your choice trainer (22lr of same action or conversion) Spare for any used for HD |
Yeah, I forgot the .22, definitely should have included that. |
Good, but I would say allot of people don't need a precision gun. If you don't plan to hunt, it's an awfully rare SHTF situation that will require long range shooting that the intermidiate carbine. I would say that a 22 rifle and a spare carbine and/or pistol are more important for most folk. The 22 is better for gathering food after TEOTWAWKI, great for training and introducing new folks to guns (which should be a primary objective for ALL gun owners.) I would also suggest that your first carbine be fairly KISS. Good (backup) irons and lightweight. That and lots and lots of training/practice. |

I have found myself down the dark path- both in longarms and now, in handguns- of finding myself buying multiple (i.e. 6+) firearms....and both times looking back and wishing I'd stuck to just 2 (plus .22s in both platforms) to really get to know and shoot well.... That, and, in retrospect I look at all the money i've spent on my 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. rifle or pistol and just wonder where I'd be if i took that cash and had put it towards mags, ammo, and training on the guns I started off with. "Don't fear the man with 10 guns....fear the man with one rifle" I forget where I heard that, but the more I get into my shooting hobby the truer it seems. BUT variety is the spice of life! And, when in doubt...buy both! I blame ARFCOM! |
It matters not. I am about as good as anyone with an M4, I spent 8.5 years active duty and have over 12 months combat time in different theaters (Bosnia, Iraq,). The AR is very simply balanced out weapon and the difference between a novice and expert is speed. Almost anyone can hit a mansize target out to 200 with a M-16/M-4 the seperation is how close to center mass and how quickly. As far as whats a good shot....I have taken running deer at 200-280 with my RRA entry tac with eotech from standing positions. I would say thats about as good as anyone want. |

Good topic, I have always wanted to ask this question though. I am not against having enough ammo on hand, the more, the better, but some have mentioned having 5000 for each CALIBER. I don't have 5000 of any caliber, the biggest stockpile I have of any caliber is 7.62x51, as I am lucky enough to have some left from the 1000rds for 139.00 days. If you have 15-20k rds in a shtf scenario it certainly would not hurt you, you could probably use it to barter, but if you actually NEED it, how many rds could you go through, shooting at people that would be shooting back, I presume, before the end would come for you? |
If you run out of ammo you can swing your cat at them.
