Does anyone know anything about modifying a VSF .223 to accept AR15 mags?  Got into some prairie dogs real thick yesterday and got really tired of reloading every 30 seconds...

I would say just get an varmint AR15....but that's my 2 cents worth.

No, there's not.  Look at an AR magazine - the small cutout that the mag catch catches would have nothing to grip on to unless you welded on an AR-15 mag well which would look retarded at best.

Go buy yourself a target/varmint AR and stop thinking about butchering a perfectly respectable Remington varmint rifle!  The situation you are describing is what target/varmint ARs are made for.

Thanks for the input fellas...I'd seen the mag job done on .308's using M1A mags so I thought it might be a possibility for the .223, but as we all know, different mag release/hold setups.  I actually got rid of my old Bushmaster VMatch 20 a year or so ago because I was burning up too much ammo plus I wanted to "diversify" and get an M4 style AR and then a bolt varmint gun.  So now I'm the happy owner of a S&W MP15T as well as the VSF.  Got into the same little town this afternoon and went through another 70 shells with the VSF...went and counted 54 bodies on the ground.  Pretty good afternoon.

Well heck, why not spend $400-$500 and get a 24" heavy/bull barrel upper and just throw it on the S&W lower?  Even the 16" barrel will do fine for most work.

I'm picking up what you are putting down...funny enough, I've just got an EOtech 512 on the MP15T and have lit up many animals (coyotes, jackrabbits, pd's) with just that...gotta love the 1 MOA dot on that thing.  Best I've done is put down a doe antelope at 252 yards (lazed w/ rangefinded, confirmed) with one shot;  55 grain softpoint Black Hills load.
