I have a friend, my closest friend, who recently decided he wanted a well rounded collection of firearms and asked me to choose them on his behalf. I also intend on providing him the necessary accoutrement: ammo, cleaning kit, eye and hearing protection, etc. He has a fair pile o' money so I have a large budget. I decided I would try to set him up with the guns I think every American should own: 1911 10/22 Lever action in a pistol caliber Lever action in a rifle caliber (Marlin 1895) Lightweight Remington 700 in 308 Remington 870 with a selection of choke tubes so he can try out hunting and various clay/trap shoots AR15 Revolver (Colt SAA because I love them he also must love them!) All right that is my list, anyone have anything to add, remove, replace, or modify? I need to make a list of what various shooting kit he will need as well. Right now he owns a Marlin 39 22 and an outers cleaning kit and nothing else. I would like him to have a firearm he could use in any common sporting or hunting event should he decide to try it. |
| I would drop the lever action pistol caliber, and SAA. Add some sort of double action revolver, and a black handgun of some sort, maybe a glock or XD in 9mm. Also would change the .308 for an -06 or .300 WM/WSM. Imo, the .308 is good for punching paper - there are better cartridges for hunting-etc. |
