I am getting ready to make a long needed purchase and bring home a safe.  Looking around locally, I'm kind of down to 3 different models.

1. Browning (Theftgard) TG23F

2. Winchester (Mfg. by Granite Safes) WL6030

3. Fortress Safes (by Heritage Safes) Braun FB3060

As of right now, I can get the Theftgard and the Winchester for the same price $799.  Both with electronic locks, 12/24 convertible interior, and 1200*F for 30 min. fire rating.  The Fortress FB3060 also has electronic lock, 18/27 convertible interior, and 1200*F for 60 min. fire rating.  Price on this one was just under $1100 and they said they would throw in an electric de-humidifier with it.

All 3 have the textured finish.

I'm kind of leaning towards the Fortress right now because of the fire rating, but I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience or advice on any of the 3 or other suggestions.

I have  a heritage safe.

I like it a lot.  Big enough for what I need.  Had it for 2 years now and no problems.

If you live in a town near a fire department, the lower ratings would be fine.

If you live way out where no one would notice your house is on fire for a while, get the highest fire rating you can.

Saying that, get the biggest you can afford, cause if you're like me, it will fill up too fast.

The only advice I have is try to figure out how big of one you need, then get one that is double that size.

I have the Winchester safe. its actually a 10/20. There's to way to fit in those last two a side. If there's a Sams Club near your, you can save some money. Mine was under $600 at Sams. $581 IIRC. I got some cheap lights that have the magnetic sensors, so when I open the door the safe lights up on the inside.

I too am looking for a safe.

Is it ok to put one in a detached garage? I assume a dehumidifier would be mandatory in that location correct? I am just starting to research safes so any info would be a big help.
-thanks

Which ever doesn't have a electronic lock. Get the biggest one you can afford/house. Bolt it to the floor. Other than that there is not much difference between similarly priced safes in general.
