Howa M1500

Anyone heard of this gun?  I bought a .308 "Hunter" version a while back for $200 after doing some research on the net.  It has a walnut stock and the previous owner had a p.o.s. Bushnell scope on it.  I had never heard of this manufacturer until I saw the gun.  It shoots fantastic, but aside from reading articles on the net I don't know much more about it.

BTW......before anyone tells me there's a potential recall on the bolt, I already had that taken care of, which is the reason how I found out its a pre 1993 production.

Mine rocks.  Head over to the Precision Rifle forum and read the tacked comparison thread; the Howa action receives decent marks.  It's a largely overlooked brand with plenty of potential; the only turn-off for most is the lack of dedicated accessories, but I have heard that some Rem 700 stuff can be made to fit.

I had a .30-06 Howa and wish I hadn't sold it.  Lots of bang for the buck.

Also, Howa made AR180s under contract for ArmaLite back in the day.

I have a Weatherby Vanguard in 300 WBY.  That's a glorified Howa 1500.  The local Commie-Mart had mine on clearance for $299.

It's virtually replaced my M700 .270 for most of my bolt action shooting.  I added a Bell & Carlson stock and it's turned out to be a fine rifle.

The Howa action is a real sleeper.

I have an M1500 in .223 Rem and love it.  I bought it as an "I'm leaving in 2 days, I need a varmint rifle" purchase.  I'm glad I did!  I was nailing prarie dogs at around 300-400 yards with it right out of the box (with a scope, of course)

Is the Howa trigger adjustable?

I had a matching 308 and 223 Smith & Wesson 1500's. They are Howas. Great rifles. I sold the set to a guy that just had to have them.

I have a Howa 1500 JRS supreme in .308.  Awesome bolt action!  When I am on with it, sub 1/4" groups at 100 yds are possible with Fed Gold Match ammo.  Cheap surplus is barely over 1" at 100yds, and all of the hunting and commercial stuff I have is around 3/4" or less.

Aftermarket triggers are available for it.  The factory one can be adjusted, but it sealed at the factory.  Breaking the sealant on the screws voids the warranty.  Rem 700 scope bases will work with the Howa's.  Weatherby Vanguard stocks will also work.  I am debating getting a B&C Medalist for it.

Thanks for the replies guys.  It is a great shooting bolt action and it's nice to know that the Rem 700 scope mounts with fit it.  I figured for the $200 I picked it up for was a great deal.

Howaby Vanguard in 300 WBY with B&C Medalist stock.

Get the Medalist.  It's a big improvement over the OEM stock.
