Ok I've got a friend who wants to buy an AR 10 type rifle "NOW", short of a Knights Armament "which has a 2-3 year wait" what is the best made 308 cal platform out there?

DPMS +1.. Ignore the "it's not an AR-10" nazis. It will outshoot them :)

What about reliablity and mag availablity for the DPMS?

My DPMS has been 100% reliable which is more than I can say for the Armalite 10T I had, although at that time the modified M-14 mags were the only ones available. The DPMS mags are readily available and are being used by nearly every other manufacturer of 308 AR's.

The Armalite AR10Ts are the best, most accurate and reliable 308 semi-auto rifles made other than the Knight's ya mentioned...

IMO,

How much are the Mags, and what kind of accuracy are you getting with the DPMS rifle.

I've gotten a few for $30 even on sale (MidwayUSA, IIRC), but the link above is the best routine/every-day price I am aware of (I'll be glad to be corrected on that, BTW ).

I paid $29 each shipped for my DPMS Mags and $50 ea for my used Knights mags.

My rifle will put 10 rounds into an inch at 100 yards, but it has a lightweight 20" JP barrel.

Who has/had them that cheap?  I can always use a few more.

Midway  had a sale on them for $25 ea. dealer price a while back and I've got an outstanding dealer I buy through.

That's all I could come up with looking through 6 pages on the AR-10 forum and 12 pages on the Variants forum.  There are more threads to read by using the search function.
