From my brief understanding:

MSAR:
- Proprietary AUG-type mags (regular AUG mags can be made to work, but involves Dremel + voiding warranty)
- Integrated/detachable optic
- AR style forward assist
- Fluted barrel in front of gas block
- AUG type muzzle threads
- Seems to be around $2200-$2400 MSRP
- Shipping

TPD:
- AR mags
- Swappable picatinny rail (different lengths)
- AUG forward assist (button on charging handle)
- Fluted barrel behind gas block
- AR type muzzle threads
- First ones start rolling at $2000 w/ optics
- 1 week from Shipping
- Secondary mag release

I think that covers the major stuff.

I would comment this

MSAR- Deep pockets corporate outfit/ white collar. Background making Knives. Design a modification of the Steyr Design in an effort to improve it.

TPSD- C2 MFG - Blue collar. More based on the original Steyr design.

What does this entail? Is it set up like a AR?

Similar. On the left side of the rifle there is a button.

The MSAR uses 4150 steel in the barrel and a cast receiver.
The AXR uses 4140 steel in the barrel and a forged billet receiver.
The MSAR is mostly (if not completely) made by MSAR; the AXR is mostly Steyr OEM with exception of: receiver, barrel assembly, extractor pin and spring, disconnecter, trigger, secondary mag release. More parts will be made in house as time goes on.
The MSAR requires you to remove the rear sling pin to remove the buttplate,  where the AXR is the same as the AUG (because the parts are OEM).

Sort of well put , but nice try.  I am looking foward to the release of the ARX to put in the stable next to my AUG and my MSAR 556! BTW, Tony at MSAR is not that White collar as far as I can tell, he gave me his home phone # as well as his personal cell #, he told me if I ever had a problem to call him directly! I'm still waiting for H&K and Colt to return my calls!

I would only add that the rail options so far are a little different.

See my whole hope was that Steyr would produce AUG A3s here when they started showing up at SHOT a few years back, but then the whole Iran BS happened and Condi decided to be a hard ass for the first time in her life.

I wanted what I didn't have with my AUG A2 and that is more rail space.

So look at the two different rail options.

Taylor if you can wait give the ARX a chance to be out for about a month, "it's going to be released soon" I'm sure there will be some side by side comparisons. I can speak from experience that MSAR has fanatical support even after the sale is made, but the guy putting out the AXR seem very down to earth as well but I have no experience with him as of yet. I own an AUG and a MSAR 556 and love them both!

Who said anything about the trigger pack?

Wasn't it a pre-buy only?

I'm a waiting- I want to see them work out the bugs first.

The MSAR requires you to remove the rear sling pin to remove the buttplate your quote. I assume you want to get to the trigger pack for cleaning?

Nah, just to remove the buttplate, like to access the storage compartment for the cleaning kit. With the AUG/AXR you push in the swivel, and I understand on the STG you have to pull it all the way out; is that not the case with the STG?

M-4,

We have three different top rail lengths: standard, mid-length, and extended.
The extended takes our PRS rail attachment which adds three more 2.5" rails at 3, 6, 9 0'clock. Pictures forth coming.

Bold hold open as original on the AUG after magazine is empty, insert fresh magazine and pull the charge handle rearward a fraction on an inch and it will release the bolt.

We didn't flute the front of the barrel, correct.

Just wanted to clear up any misunderstanding about the AXR.

The MSAR manual says you can do it without removing the sling pin completly the same as the Steyr, but I haven't personally tried it with mine. The bolt hold open keeps the trigger pack in place without the pin so I just pull the pin completly to remove the buttplate.

So to remove the trigger pack you have to remove the sling pin and push the bolt release? How does the BHO relate to the trigger pack?
