if you had a semi custom 5'' gov't 1911 and an ar15 midlength with 14.5'' bbl with an eotech, and only wanted to stay with the 1911 as your pistol of choice and ar15 as rifle of choice, and had $2400.00, would you get another semi custom 1911 or another ar15 with an acog?

Personally, I both love the AR and the 1911 - so no matter what you do, it'll be a good choice!  But given that you already have a really nice 1911, I think I'd get a differently configured AR - like maybe 20" or something like that - with the ACOG.

That is a tough question!!!!!
I guess I would go with the 1911.  There are more than a few expensive 1911 I would love to own,  Ed brown Executive Elite, Les Baer Custom carry,  Rock River Arms Pro Carry...................  I could go on and on        I would have trouble just picking one of them

Only one of the two guns you mentioned are likely to be the target of an upcoming ban.

Buy what is most likely to become unavailable in the not so distant future.

I would pick up a shotty

If that is against your grain look into a true long range AR they are alot of fun

varmits, or open site match, or even national match rifles.

Check out White Oak they make beautiful heavy barreled uppers, that will shoot .25 MOA with the right ammo and person behind them.

not really wanting a shotty(besides my buddies 870 wingmaster lives in my safe) or a long range precision ar. it'll either be another 14.5'' gun with a ta31f or ta33r8, 20'' with a ta01 or ta31rcoa4 or nighthawk custom talon or talon2. what would you feel was more important to own, 2 ar's and a 1911 or 2 1911's and 1 ar?

Both.

Get another AR, skip the ACOG - you can buy one down the road.  Personally I'd configure the second AR just like the first with the exception of getting a magnified optic on the second (something cheaper like a burris fullfield tac in larue mount).

Get a GI 1911.  Doesn't have to be uber custom, just something that is reliable and relatively cheap.  Shouldn't be more than 700-800 bucks.

Figre the AR is anywhere from 1600-1800, and then ~700 for a 1911.

You have enough for both if you shop smart.

Pick up a shotGUN (not a shotty) not sure wtf that is, probably pink & bleeds once a month. & a whole pile of ammo & reloading components.

A good bolt gun is not a bad idea either.

Beware the man with one rifle, for it probably sits in his closet for years on end and will be rusted shut when he needs it most.

LOL

2nd 1911. A 1911 is a lot more likely to go tit's up than your AR.

I never met anyone with one rifle who fired more than 5 rounds a year.

Under Hilary? I don't think so. I think that AR will be the fading memory, not the single stack 1911.

i've had 3 other ar's in the past and stupidly sold them to fund other platforms to only come running back to the ar15. so i shoot more than 5 rds a year, the gun will never be rusty , but you're right i do only put 1000 to 1500 rds a year through my ar's. i have decided on a nighthawk talon with no front cockers, blank slide heinie night sights and crowned bbl. i will have a 2nd cmmg middy 14.5'' with all the fixins by summer. election is more than a year away.

Id say some kind of precision AR. CMMG or similar SPR upper, A2 or PRS stock and a variable optic or fixed 10 power.

Why do you want another gun if you're happy with what you have and don't want something different? I never understood folks that collected umpteen different variations of the same gun. Variety is the spice of life.
