Hi all, i am planning on finishing my L1A1 FAL soon, and am actually going to go the more modern look on it, i have a 16" barrel with a AUG style flash hider, planning on getting a red dot scope ect.. And for my 922r compliance parts i need to pick up a synthetic stock set. I am not too fond of these, but i have no choice if i am going to make it legal, what i was wondering is, can i easily texture the stock to be like the British pebble grain synthetic stock? Or is their somewhere i can send it to get it cheaply done? Also, any L1A1 owners want to give their feedback on this US made synthetic stock set? thanks |

bed liner is a very good way to go. if you don't want the rubbery (which you wil not get) get some spray on epoxy paint after about 10-15 min of application hit it with a stiff bristle tooth brush. IF you prep the stock and handguards then spray light bed liner coats vs. heavy and on your last 2 passes you pull back off the stock about 12" you will get a nice clean textured finish. |

There's a couple of other options, one is the spray grit that Brownells sells. It's an epoxy, probably alumahyde, with some sort of grit in it. The other option is the spray-on wrinkle finish. The only issue with that is it may not adhere to plastic. Alumahyde sticks great to plastic. As the actual graining is part of the mold on the Brit furniture it will be very difficult to duplicate. Another option is the paint that is used on rocker panels for cars. It's not really rubbery like the bed liner but it is chip resistant and has a texture to it. You can vary the texture by how far away from the surface you spray it. Close up give a smoother texture and further away is more rough. I have bought it in rattle cans under the Morton Chip Guard brand. It is available in black and clear. Auto paint supply shops carry it. |
