I am making a replica 1903a4 and I am looking for a bolt. My current will not work with my Weaver scope. It has to work, not so much be authentic. Does anyone do a good job bending bolts, or is there a inexpensive not junk repo bolt?
THanks

There is a gun smith who turns 1903's into snipers

I have one I could sell you.  It doesn't have the extractor on it though, so you'd have to buy that from somewhere.  I got mine from numrich.

You will never be happy with a faked 1903a4. And the truth be told the Weaver scope sucks. It is your gun do what you like with it, but why destroy a 1903. Look for a real 1903a4

Do you have the name of the gunsmith that does the bolt conversion?

I am happy with a fake 04. I am doing most of the work myself, and I can not see spending so much on something that I am afraid shoot and cry if I scratch.

I'm sorry, but bubbadizing is not acceptable.  You need to get out of this thread.

Why should he get out of this thread?

I plan on doing this to my rifle, not yours. I can do what I can afford.
I value SD307 comments as well as ones stating that I should leave my rifle alone.

SO

Who are you to tell me what is and is not acceptable on my own firearm?
Who are you to tell someone to leave a thread for having a constructive insight EXP if the thread is not yours??

What you are doing to your rifle is taking a $700 gun and turning it into a $70 gun.

Its a run of the mill rifle that I picked up for a decent price.(Less than $500-) Its not a collectors grade one because it does not have matching parts. Many new firearms cost much more than what I paid for it including a basic Rem 700.
I always wanted a 1903A4 style rifle but I could not afford one. Dont forget the reason I wanted one was to take it out and enjoy it.

Why should I destroy the real 1903A4 parts by placing them on a fake 04 (hence the Weaver). For what I intend to do with the rifle it fits the bill just fine and does not brake the bank.

I am looking for something that is visually appealing to me and it is constructed of decent quality.
Its not the best, but for the time period works just fine.

My dad had a Bubba-ized '03 he picked up from someone back in the day, since its originality was already destroyed by someone else (drilled and tapped) I've been thinking of making an attempt on an A4 replica to restore some respectability to the ol gal...

It doesn't matter if it is matching or not.  It is all USGI and shouldn't be tampered with.

If you want to build a fake A4, then find a 1903 that has already been fucked up and leave your other one as is.

Its people like the OP that are the reason why old military rifles cost $3000 in the first place.

Medic17  I hope you don't feel like I am breaking your balls.

Have you ever shoot a 30-06 with a Weaver 330 on it? The scope realy can't take that much abuse for a long time. If it breaks you will have a hell of a time finding someone that can fix it. Then you are left with a 1903a3 with holes in the recever. The redfield mount aint all that great ether. It will need to be shimed more than likely. The windage ajustment screws don't hold all that well.

I understand wanting a 1903a4 but you will not see any range reports with braging about the great groups acheaved with 1093a4 at 300 yards.

I have to agree with those telling you to NOT alter a gun in original condition.

Between the money you will lose in value by altering an original, and the money spent in parts/labor altering the rifle, you could buy a very nice bolt action rifle with scope.

This is maybe one of those things that you will kick yourself for somewhere down the road.

My suggestion is, just buy a sporterized 1903A3 (one that has already been Bubbaized) and work from there; most sporterized 03A3s already have modified bolts and all you'd have to do is revert them back to 03A3 status. That's my plan of attack, but finding a sporterized 03A3 has been a bit of a challenge.

That's where I'm at.  I got a sporterized '03 in trade.  I'd also like to know where to get a modified bolt for my build.

Sell your rifle to someone who won't mess with it, thus leaving it in it's unmolested state. Take the money from the sale and go to gunbroker, auction arms, etc. and find a nice bubba'd 1903 or 03a3. You may be able to save yourself a little cash while your at it.
