Ok, here's my issue(s) and my questions. The FFL I've been using in the past, who is located in cook county, says that there is some new law that's not quite on the books but is still prosecutable or something, and for that reason, he can't do anything about my request that he see if he could find a Steyr AUG A2. Personally, I think he's just being fat and lazy. Here's my deal: I would really like to pick up a new Steyr AUG A2. I don't like the mods microtech has put on their version, and the model that steyr puts out is time tested. I like the A2 because of the optics modularity. I want one new or gently used. Now then, my questions... Can you still import the Steyr AUG A2? I know that importation was halted a while back, but that was a while back. What's the red tape that you'd have to go through if you wanted to import one, and what's the price? Is used the ONLY way? Idk, I just look at the used prices of like $3,000 and figure if I'm going to drop that much on a rifle, it might as well be new. Also, I'm assuming that they are still in production as well because other countries use them in their armed forces...so it shouldn't be a matter of there not being anymore... I really don't know, the whole situation surrounding this rifle has me confused and I'd love someone to fill me in on the details. Thanks guys! |

Is it one of the rifles that are excluded by executive order? Theres a ton of international rifles that are covered by that. Dennis Jenkins

They can be imported for government and police use only, so the simple answer is no chance. A few years ago Steyr was trying to get things together for domestic manufacture, but last time i talked to anyone at SteyrArms USA, that idea was officially dead forever. If you want the original A2, start combing gunbroker and get the old credit card out. |
Buy a US made clone. An original A2 will cost you $4.5k+ for a used gun. At least you will get US support on the clones and save yourself a ton of cash. S.O. |

Steyr AUGs are non-importable since '89 as non-sporting per Bush 1, and that has only gotten tougher, no receivers with "high capacity" mags since mid-90s. They tried some "sporting" variant for a period, the USR, but that went away. Steyr itself is struggling financially, and appears to have no domestic US production plans after some talk a couple of years ago. Also I understand Cook County has some very restrictive new "assault weapons" law on the books that would make it hard to get as well. |

Rats, this is not what I wanted to hear. You'd figure that if they were struggling they'd break back into the US market; it's not like there isn't a demand for them. I saw the USR, but I wasn't happy with it. Oh well. I guess I'll just sit back and wait for something interesting to happen, because there's no way I'm going to spend $4.5k on a used rifle, not when I can put that money into getting something new and interesting (like an XCR, Masada or FN SCAR combined for that price). Thanks guys. |

I would not let mine go for a nickel under $3700.00! I'm on my second after I sold my first NIB AUG gun to finance a class three toy. I was lucky to find the 2nd gun, it had one owner and was shot only a few times and came with everything but the box! |
I had no idea something like that was in the works. When will they roll out and how do they stack up against the ones Microtech are putting out? I gotta say though, I love the fact that the TPD one accepts all AR15 mags...that's HUGE. Perhaps I need to reevaluate my opinion on the domestic AUG clones... Thanks much guys!! |
