I saw at the austin gun show 2 sig 556 in 5.56. They are piston driven actions that accept ar mags. Looked good and handled good. Seemed well made.

Only two things I did not like was the shoulder stock(m4 extendable) and the price(2 grand)

I don't know how they shoot but for 2 grand I'll stick with my ar for 600 bucks and buy ammo with the left over dollars.

If they want 2 G's they are raping some one if someone buys one. They should be around 1300. Im going to wait for the folder and then change the ugly ass front grip for the original one.

They're great guns, but you'll find one for MSRP (1299) in many places at this point.

I got to shoot on the other weekend.  It shot well, nice rifle.  I think I'll stick to the AR-15 platform though, just too many options there.

ETA  They guy said it was rated to shoot 10k rounds before cleaning.  Also, if it does start jamming, there is a variable pressure knob at the front of the handguard.  You can just turn up the pressure to get it working again.

I saw one a few weeks ago at a gun shop for $1,266 bucks.

I liked it, but it sucks to buy a brand new "black rifle" and immediately have to shell out money for optics or flip up sights before you can take it to the range.

Anybody know if SIG will be offering these with the original folder instead of the lame M4 stock?

I'm pretty sure the original 551 isn't either.  Does it matter for the SIG design?

2k is way to expensive.  You can get them on gunbroker.com for 1200-1400 and you won't have to pay taxes.

Here is a buy it now one for 1300:

I have some pictures of my Sig 556 here:

You will love the gun

I keep hearing that one is in the works, then that SIG has no plans for a folder..........maybe something definite soon, otherwise the plans JoshNC was talking about sounds like a good alternative

I love mine too!  Don't pay more than around $1,300 though.  Some folks have snagged 'em for around $1,100 and they are all over for $1,300ish.  Check gunbroker and your local dealers.  It should take you about 20 minutes to locate one at MSRP.  Just try to make sure that you get one with the matching finish on the upper and lower receiver.  The higher the serial number the better as far as these 556s go.  Here's mine:  (I fixed the sights-on backwards in the pics, LOL).

I took off 2/3rds of the lower hand guard to make it more hand friendly since I don't hang stuff off of my guns (the light is there just for show).  It is still very raw and in need of some detailed filing to look better finished off but I like it.  It doesn't look as long as it does in these pics...

Hey MJohn, FWIW, I saw a post from another guy using the Ace set up and he had it where you could take off that lock ring and it still works fine only it eliminates the gap and sits more flush with the receiver.  I bet that would work for your set up.  The folding mech. just screwed right into the AR plug.  Here is his setup:

My 556 gets the Ace folder treatment on Weds.  This zombie slayer should pretty much be perfected by then except for a pile of clear Magpul p-mags whenever those come out.
