Is there a way to un-sporterize a deawoo rifle? Is it possible to install enough US parts to make it more original? |
It wouldn't have the same value of a pre-ban Daewoo with all the US made parts for the count. I did own an SL8 and was going to do a G-36K conversion to it, but after careful study it just looked like I was going to have to spend a ton of money and effort for a rifle that was less realiable than a G-36 or a stock SL8. If I was just about looks I would have done it, but I like to have every rifle battle ready for SHTF. |
Yes, and yes. ACE has stocks and pistol grips. AR-15 trigger parts interchange. There are other US parts available such as gas piston and the charging handle that count for parts. US made M16 mags are three US parts right there. HK-91 and FAL handguards can be modified to fit fairly easily. Both are available as US made. Edited ~ 82nd |
Thanks for the links Ross - it made me think again about buying one from a friend. Most seem to agree that these are good accurate reliable gas-piston 5.56mm rifles. What seems to keep the interest low is the lack of domestic support (though Ross' websites show there are some DIY parts out there). Funny, like the Armalite AR-180, these guns are not that sought after. And yet, there is an obsession with gas piston ARs. I think you should buy the gun and de-ban it. Post pics if you do. |

There's a 'Woo on EE that has a cool stock conversion. The owner cut the thumbhole section out of the original stock turned it into a fixed stock with pistol grip. Check it out on EE, it looks good. He wouldn't return my IM and post on his ad for advice on how to do it, though... |
