| How is the Flash Hider Attached??? Screwed on, Pressed on, ect..?? And how the heck do you get them off? |
| I am not sure on this at all, but I do believe it is 1/2 X 28. I have seen mini's w/ vortex FH and A2 FS on them, but I can't recall if they were GB's or not. I don't know of any wrench for the factory FS either, and I really don't want to screw mine up trying to get it off without the proper tool. |
any idea how to get it off there with out recking anything? |
| They are treaded on. I had to send a GB I bought in once a newer one(BTW Ruger will not fix older GB anymore) It needed a new barrel (chamber problems) and when it came back they ruined the flashider. I suppose you make a jig or find a certain spanner that would work. |

I'd like to see that in writing from Ruger. They refused to sell me parts for my high capacity magazines. Dennis Jenkins

FS is 9/16 X 24 TPI, right hand thread. Use a regular screw driver stuck between the slots to remove. High cap magazines (factory flavor) are available from 44mag.com (see industry partners, or above this window), or CDNN. Mag parts are available via Brownells. 30 round factory mags, and parts are not available, as Ruger No longer manufactures them, and has'nt for a number of years. If you'd like to bitch about it, try the Pro-Mag 30 round Polymer mags they have worked 100% in my AC556. There are plenty of good mags out there if you'll bother to try them. FWIW, C-Products is supposed to produce a SS, 30 rd. mag toward the end of '07. Gee, they still service the machine guns, why would'nt they service your GB model???? I think dj has a vailid question there! |
|
I am going to email them regarding this. I have heard that rumor that they will not service GBs. I will post the results of the email to them when they respond. ETA: I can't find an email address so I am going to give the civilian and police divisions a call on Tuesday. |
as far as flash hiders whats avilable for them? i wouldnt mind putting a vortex on it. |

Unless things have changed Ruger doesn't have an email address. It took a couple of tries to get them to refuse to sell me parts for a high capacity magazine via snail mail. Dennis Jenkins

Actually, Ruger ceased manufacturing the 30 round magazine in 2002/2003 IIRC. They have since started making them again, but they are LEO/letter head only and nearly impossible to find. They started making them again to further the cause of the "new" GB as a service carbine and to satisfy the request of agencies already using the GB for replacement 30's and parts. I had 6 of these magazines, dated between 2005/2006. In addition to the GB Carbine, there are supposidly 4+new GB models coming soon, including those in 6.8 SPC and those equipped with a M4 style telestock. Unfortunatly, Ruger sucks and if they have thier way all this stuff will be vapor ware to us lowly civilians. They won't even discuss thier LE products unless you are calling on behalf of a department or using a letterhead. There is a Mini 14 counterpart to ARFCOM and stories have circulated about Ruger confiscating or refusing to work on GB's and components. Afterall, since these weapons are LEO by thier policy, and if you werent issued one by your department, you must have stolen it, right? ![]() I no longer own any Mini 14's as I sold both my "old" LEO GB and "new" LEO GB Carbine. As much as I liked them, they are inferior compared to even the lowlyest AR and they cost a fortune to support. I have paid as much as 100.00 for a single 30 round factory magazine and 45.00 for factory 20's. Obscene....Not to mention spare parts are essentially unavailible and since I am a private citizen, I cant count on Ruger for support. I loved my Mini's...they are cool guns, but they just have alot counting against them, especially when compared to an AR. Sadly, so does every other platform. As far as removing Ruger GB flash suppresors, be careful. They weren't really designed to be taken off by non-Ruger armorers. Use an appropriate screwdriver and be careful not to damage it. To much pressure will cause you to break the prongs. The FH on my "new" GB was threaded left while my "old"LEO GB was threaded right. I was told Ruger does this to prohibit removal. Thier also appeared to be Loctite or similar on the "old" GB suppressor. My advice would be to leave it...its actually a pretty effective unit and it looks great. These are easily damaged and expensive to replace...there really isn't any point in replacing it. |
Actually, "new" GB's do come with flash suppressors. They come with the same suppressor used on the "old" GB. Its bayonet lugs they are without... Every "new" GB including my recently sold GB Carbine, I have seen has the same birdcage style supressor they have always had.... |
correct. They do have the old FS with no bayonet lug. They have the "new and improved" sights found on the civilian mini's too. |

One cool thing is they now come with 2 20 round mags. I have had okay luck with the GB models but a okay AR is better IMO.
