| Question for the grizzled vets here. I keep my clips fully loaded at all times, does doing this negativley affect their shelf life? If so what do you suggest instead ? |
|
I keep all my magazines loaded by the toilet, where the shit hits the toilet regularly. |

If you are refering to me dear boy, I would have you know I was pointing out that the items in qustion are called magazines and not "clips". Besides, it's TEAM member to you, as in paid contribution to the site. Have a nice day. |
what's a contrigution
|
Woops, sorry. Fixed it. |
I saw the title of the thread and stayed away from it for a couple hours because I thought I could smell fire coming form inside. Give the guy a break and just explain the difference. |

We knew what he was talking about, but that doesn't make it right. If I'm driving a diesel and someone asks me "How big is the gas tank on that truck?" I tell them it doesn't have one. I knew what they meant, but they need to know that a diesel doesn't burn gasoline. |
Hehehe nice comeback! Wheres the pic of a "banana clip"? |

the only exception i can think of is the the Soviet Tokarev pistol magazine/clip. by definition a magazine is an ammunition feeding devise. the Tok magazines don't have feed lips, so it can't feed amunition. the feed lips/rails are machined into the receiver(kinda like the feed rails on a mauser 98 action). the Tok magazine only holds the ammunition and has nothing to do with the feeding functions, so it is a clip that just happens to look similar to a "magazine". advntrjnky |
| Or if you were in the Navy, at least during the Vietnam era like my father in law; he says that they called the things filled with ammo that you shoved into the rifles 'clips' because the word 'magazine' was reserved for speaking about the ship's magazine, to avoid any potential confusion. |
Now now, I was just having a bit of fun. No malice intended to anyone. In the end we are all friends here and any advice needed will be passed on freely. |
|
Point taken ! I will now throw away all my clips and load up my magazines. lol I really appreciate the education that you guys provide. I recently purchased my first M4a3 and a Springfield XD .40, and have been attempting to gain as much knowledge as possible, so all the advice and suggestions are welcome. |
Now you can save all the above pics and repost them when another newbie makes a similar error. All in good fun. |

Many folks recommend that you only load 28 rounds in your GI AR mags for ease in seating the mag when the bolt is forward. I also subscribe to this method. However, if you're not training to fight with your rifle, speed, and ease of insertion may not hold any value for you. |
With that attitude - you are gonna do WELL here. Welcome to the jungle. |
