I feel that there are enough of us with XCR's and we needed to start a pic thread.  I will get things going.

The barrel has been cut to 14.7 and the FH pinned.  Some mentioned that a chrome lined barrel when cut will flake, but I can't see any problems to this point.  Accuracy has not changed.

The iron sights were a package deal from ASA.  The rear is a 4 aperture sight that I really like.  The 4 apertures are nice and it lays flat when not in use.  The front site was a folder made for a gas black rail and I cut it down and re pinned it to make it a fixed sight.  Several fixed sights are out there for $30 to $40.  I like the fixed front sight because if the dot goes down, I only have to flip one sight, not both.  Second, with the largest peep, it is like sighting through the scope tube only.  For CQB using the front sight and the scope tube will get me on target.  This works well as I directly co witness.

The scope is a SPOT mounted in a Burris low ring setting on a YHM riser.  The total height from the top of the rail to the bottom of the scope tube is 3/4 inch.

The sling is a Specter Gear 3 point.  I used a heavy duty luggage hook on the rear attachment and it works great.  High quality sling!!

The grip and rail covers are OD from Falcon industries.

The light is a OD Surefire G2 in a Viking Tactical Mount.  I have a Z49 switch coming.  I tried a pressure switch and it worked well, but it got very tiring holding the light on for an extended period of time.  The G2 in this mount actually works better for me and I can turn the light on with a quick upward rotation on the tail.  With the new switch it will be even easier.  It also puts the switch in a real natural spot above the thumb when shooting, yet out of the way to avoid accidental light discharges.

I will definitely be adding OD PMAG's with the window when they come out.  A commercially made fixed front sight may be in the works, but this one works fine and is not going anyway.  Plus it was free except for my time.

So post your pics of your XCR and give a little run down on its setup so others can see what works for you.

Here is mine on New Years Eve outside of Boise, ID. About 700-800 rounds through it of M193, Wolf, and mostly my reloads without one problem.

Martens, who chopped your barrel and pinned the FH, I have been thinking about doing that on mine.

Harris and CO outfitters in Rolla, MO.  I think it was $50 out the door and I brought in a stripped gun.  He will need your bolt and carrier as well as the barrel to get it done.

I was amazed at how much better the gun felt removing just that little bit of barrel.  It put the center of balance a lot closer to the center of the gun.

Keep the pics coming!!!

I just picked mine up today.

What optic should I go with?  I don't want to spend ACOG prices.

Aimpoint, EOTech or a Burris Fulfield II?  What do you guys think?

Here are a few pic of my XCR in all of it's incarnations.  The pictures of targets shot at 50 & 100 yards was with my AAC Ranger suppressor.  I am not through with the changes and I am sure it will look differently next month. As of now it shorts the following:

- Magpul CTR stock
- Tactical Tailor single point sling
- Magpul enhanced trigger guard
- Magpul MIAD grip
- Tango Down vert grip
- Phantom flash hider and sometimes AAC Ranger suppressor
- PRI flip front sight
- ARMS #40L rear BUIS
- Aimpoint ML3 red dot
- Aimpoint 3x magnifier with Samson flip mount
- Surefire Scout Light with MU60 120 lumen bezel (sometimes)

Niiice pics guys!

I had a question though.  Seeing the pics made me realize that the AR height sights might be too high to get a good cheek weld.  Is this an issue, or is it good to go?

YMMV but with the AR sights I think the XCR is perfect. Better cheek weld then the AR.  Mostly because with an AR I tilt my head over too the right.  With the XCR there is no head tilting.

Those are some nice rifles, guys.

I agree that AR sights on the XCR work quite well.  I used to have my scope mounted 1/4 off the rail and I could get an extremely tight cheek weld.  When I added the BUIS's I had to raise the scope and found it was actually better a little higher, especially with bulky coats and or vests on.  It just falls into place comfortably with no searching.  I index my nose on the rear of the receiver and go.

An Eotech and/or any 30 mm tube scope with a 3/4 inch tall base (Aimpoint, SPOT,etc) should be almost perfectly co witnessed with the irons, at least from my experiences.

Hey MadDogDan,  is your Aimpoint a 2 or 4 moa?

great pics everyone.

[#21]
Silas,
My Aimpoint is a 2moa (ML3 model) which works out perfectly with the 3x magnifier.  I do have a 4 moa Aimpoint on my suppressed SBR and that works out well for CQB Tac Matches but I like the 2moa if I am going to use the 3x behind it.

I just talked to RA, they are behind on getting my bolt and trigger parts back to me. Anyway, they gave me some updates, the 6.8 should be here soon followed by the 7.62x39. They are still looking for a mag manufacturer. They are also working on their own design folding/collapsable stock for the XCR. The guess was maybe 6 months. They are also still working on the .308 version, no word on what other calibers it will be able to use.

[#23]
Is RA at least shipping the .223 version right now?
Thinking of getting one soon.
Also considering a 14.5" barrel with permanent muzzle.

No offense but the 18 month thing is pretty optimistic, The XCR is worth trying and if you don't like it you can sell it very easily.

You may also want to consider a Hitlary Klinton or Al Gore Presidency.

No way I'd wait 2 years for any weapon system.  Besides my XCR I'd like a SIG 556 though...  But I still haven't shot my XCR so If I totally fall in love with it then I'll buy another.

How else are you supposed to shoot off 80-100 rounds from a 30 round mag and still not hit anybody?

223Rem,

The XCR doesn't use the buffer, but can use an adapter allowing you to use any AR15 stock.
I don't believe MDD bought his XCR with the adapter, although you can definitely order them that way.

That's what I'll be doing, since I'll be putting a UBR on it.

Trout,

I got the AR15 stock adaptor "after" I got the XCR and I think I paid $39 for it.  You can however, buy an XCR with an AR15a stock installed from the factory.  It was not an option then but is now.

Gotcha MadDog.  It's great the weapon system is so versatile.  I can't wait for the weather to clear up (Icy roads on way to range) so I can test my XCR out.
