| how accurate are steyr augs, these new u.s. made ones look pretty sweet, but can they keep up with my ar? |
I don't know what barrel length has to do with accuracy, unless you are saying it will require less hold over at 300+ meters if it is longer. I did a class with an AUG that ran right along side the ARs. It does just as well. It's a fighting rifle like the AR, not a match gun. 2-2 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards with standard ammo. |

The major benefit from an Aug type design is the short turn-in and very quick target aq . Also the overall length of a 16" barreled Aug is like a 10.5" AR or something like that, so it WILL be more accurate at longer ranges, and have more powere behind it from the extra 5-6" of barrel. |

hmm strange, the people over at steyr-aug.com seemed to think that the AR was more accurate, I figured the poeple on this site would say the same thing. maybe we got the kool-aid mixed up. the AR is supposed to shoot 1" groups, but most people say the AUG is about a 2 moa weapon at best. dont get me wrong I am not trying to say that the AR is more or less accurate, I have no clue, just surprised at the contradictory reports. I can only afford one high-end rifle, so its gotta be able to shoot long distances accurately, for hunting and long range plinking (>5-600yds). I will probably get a 6.5 upper for my .22lr AR, but I was seeing if a 6.8 US clone AUG would fit the bill, i.e. near MOA accuracy. |
Those guys at the AUG site are drinking the wrong Kool-Aid. The AUG guys over there are probably thinking precision and match AR types which will usually be 1 MOA or less. But comparing apples to apples Mil-Spec type AUGs and ARs with chrome lined barrels are pretty much usually in the 2 MOA accuracy range. When you get your barrel make sure you're getting a precision - match type barrel to meet your 1 MOA requirement. |
