My trusty 618FA Surefire forend for my 870 no longer seems to be working.  I thought it might be the batteries, but a switch provided no change.  Are the surefire foreends water proof?  I had thought that they were, and I had my gun out hunting when I was caught in a downpoor, and my gun became drenched for about an hour.  Not sure if the batteries got ruined, or if the lamp itself has.  Any input would be appreciated.

Also, will surefire replace a foreend if one dies due to water/rain?  If not, where is a good link for a cheap replacement?  I might consider upgrading to the 918FA this time!

Did you try replacing the bulb?

No.....do you think it could be burnt out?

That would be my guess, there isn't a whole lot else to go wrong.

Surefires are o-ring sealed, so they can withstand a little bit of water at least.

But if the bulb burns out due to the rain, that would mean that the light assembly isn't water proof, or rain proof?  How do I SHTF proof this gun?  I want it to be able to withstand a little rain.

No, I think what happened is that your bulb just burnt out because it was at the end of its service life not because it was wet.

With new batteries I try them in something I know that is working first - just to make sure the batteries are good.  Once I know the batteries are good I then put them in the "dead" light.  From there, if it doesn't work, time to investigate the bulb.  I do the same thing - take the working bulb from another light and see if it works in the "dead" light.  After a little bit you'll have it narrowed down to batteries, bulb, or the rest of the unit...

So, where can I buy a cheap replacement bulb, or do I have to go straight through Surefire again?

find out what model # you have...or just call surefire and ask what bulb you will need....then just do a google search...there are plenty of people out there who sell surefire lights, bulbs, and accesories

You could try ebay. I'd go with an original replacement though. I want to be sure my light works when I need it.
