Can any one tell me what the differences are aside from the lack of a flash suppressor?

Usr has all the A3 edited A2  features most Civi Aug's do not and the USR has a ButtHole stock that severly gets in the way of mag changes.

USR receiver is an A2 style.  That means you can remove the optic and put a rail in its place.  It also has the folding cocking handle and the barrel included is much heavier than a standard AUG barrel.

USR's did not come with quick release knobs for releasing the barrel but they are easy to install.

That thumbhole stock on the USR is the most worthless thing I've ever seen on a gun.

The thumbhole stock is gay, but it's not as gay as the integrated optics on regular AUGs.

Yes, they are made by Swarovski, but they are 1970s technology. Rifle tech hasn't improved much if at all since then, but modern optics are infinitely better.

The barrel release button is really easy to install...if you can find one, now that PJs isn't selling AUG parts for the time being. I managed to snag one last summer for my USR before he quit.

The heavy USR barrel kind of sucks, but it can be turned down if it's a big deal to you. I keep meaning to send mine out for reprofiling but I haven't got around to it yet.

I don't really care about the folding cocking handle. The old style wears out the paint on the receiver, which may be a big deal to you if your AUG a safe queen. Some of the old style cocking handles have a forward assist button that the new folding style lacks.

The USR has the new roller style bolt carrier. Some later standard AUGs came with it as well. I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes in actual use.

In my experience, the roller doesn't do squat other than to cut a little channel in the top of your stock after a long time.

ETA:  Also the USR's I've seen use a newer sytle gas piston that is triangular at the stem (part that the spring wraps around) and they all use the newer style spring loaded firing pin.  I don't think that matters very much as the FA guns never changed to a spring loaded FP.

Forgot that Pete isn't selling parts anymore.  I have an extra used QR knob if anyone needs one for their USR but is is green.

Adding to all the above, the AUG A1 scope has the circular "donut of death" scope reticle (no crosshairs) and the USRs and AUG A2s have the reticle like in the picture above.    I have owned a USR and did not find the thumbhole that offensive...

I wish that was true my USR has the doughnut of death, i hate it

Did you buy it new?  It's my understanding all the USRs had the newer (non-dount) reticle, and I know mine did and so have the half dozen or so other examples I've seen.  Perhaps someone switched the reticle in their AUG for the one in the USR you now have...

I have two USR barrels and only one of them has the triangular gas piston. I have to admit that I've never given the difference serious thought.

They probably had left over scopes and put the doughnut ones on a few runs of the USRs.

A lot of the new Steyr MA1 pistols were using the older Mseries slides on the new MA1 frames for a long time.

My A2 came with the standard crosshair sight picture scope and the scope now sits on my work bench as I switched it out for my ACOG that cost me an arm and a leg.  Most folks will put aftermarket optics on their AUG special, A2s, and USRs.  The fact that it comes with fairly decent scope is nice, but there are far better choices in optics.

Still though you don't hear about folks losing their zero with the AUG scopes like they appear to do with the G-36 optics.

USR is basically AUG A2 w/o flash hider and with thumbhole stock.  In similar configuration, it's slightly heavier than AUG A1.

I believe bolt carrier is updated along with folding cocking handle and w/o QD barrel attachment(easily amended) but the biggest advantage is that flattop rail can substituted for the native optics.  So you can mount flip-ups, red dot, or ACOG of your choice on it.

Personally speaking, I would recommend waiting for Pete/PJS Investments' new STG556's release.  STG556 sound like 4th generation AUG, with improvements over AUG A3.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm going to hold on to it for now.  I've never sold a firearm or anything firearm related...I'm kind of a pack rat that way I guess.
