A friend of mine's father just passed and he was given some weapons his dad had collected over the years.  The best of which at this point is an Enfield Number 4 MK1.  He asked me to post on here asking about how much would fetch if sold.  The rifle is in very good shape and still fires.  Please either let me know what they go for or somewhere i can find out.

unless there is something special about it, it's probably worth $150-$200 in a private sale.  that is, if it's still in excellent condition.  if it's one of the many re-barreled, service rifles it's probably worth even less.

these are great rifles,  there is just so many of them out there that everyone has one or two sitting in the safe.  and since it's not a common mil. caliber anymore many people don't shoot them much.

Thanks so much for the help guys.  The gun is most likely going to stay in his hands but he just wanted to know a round about number.  Thanks again.

I think Grizzley was pretty close.  Different mfg like Savage and Longbranch are going to be worth more.  If he was a collector, the rifles may be above average examples, so possibly 200-250 for a nice longbranch.

Point is, not enough cash to justify the sale.

SMLE is the best bolt action design ever.  Detachable mag, stripper clip guide, fastest bolt operation, 10 round capacity, 11 or 12 if you push them in there.  While it was never issued with more than one mag, you can buy newly manufactured mags, and mag changes can be quite quick.

IMHO it is priceless. The supply is drying up on these rifles, when they are gone there will be no more.Tell him to keep it.
