I just got home from purchasing a German Mauser M48.  EDIT: its a yugo mauser. about $80 online in used condition.
whats the difference in this and the K98?

What do you guys think of the deal that I got?
I got the 48 For $150. Never fired. Perfect Cond.
And for another $50 I got 500 Rounds of 8mm ammo milsurp on stripper clips.

So for $200 I got an unfired m48 and 500 rounds.

I think I made out pretty good!

And another question! Is there a way to mount a scope on this beast or is it pointless?
thanks.

Check every last round before firing. I bought an assload of surplus ammo for mine, and quite a few rounds had cracked case mouths, case heads, etc.

I wouldn't scope it, myself...it sorta ruins the experience.

IIRC, there is no real difference between an M48 and a 98K, other than where & when it was made.

The M48 is similar to the K98 but not the same.  Parts such as the bolt and the stock will not interchange.

The M48 has a mid length action, while the K98 has a long action.

There's a scout scope mount out there for the M48. I have one but have yet to buy a scope for it. The M48 is a good candidate for a scout rifle. One of the guys at my gun club has one and after shooting it, I decided to set mine up in a similar fashion.

Well...while I may have had no trouble in recollection, it's the "correct" part that got me...

I'll bet that ammo is corrosive.  Be sure you use black powder solvent or something similar to clean it with.  I bought some ammo that was advertised as non-corrosive but it turned out it was corrosive.

I wish I could find 500 rounds of 8mm in my neck of the woods. My local shop has it for $20 for 70 round bandoleers with stripper clips.

I also want to scout scope mine. I bought a mount but it needs modification to mount to the rear sight. I have not gotten around to filing it down to fit.

I love shooting my Turk, it helps that its the cheapest thing I own to shoot.

Run a patch wet with Windex through the bore and wipe the bolt face down, then clean as normal.

Mojosights.com cut my groups in half, but the wide V never worked for me. besides a neater sight picture it can adjust for the trajectory of Any load you choose. Get a few crates of surp while it si still out there, Turk, Yugo, Romanian are all decent overall.
