OK, I am curious on how to transfer a firearm properly to a friend of mine. Do I just need to write out a bill of sale, and if so, what needs to be on there? Any info would be appreciated.

As long as your friend lives in the same state and neither of you live in Commieville, the proper way to transfer a firearm is to hold it with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, extend your arm, and when you friend grasps the firearm, release your grip.

If you want something to show the cops when your ex-gun gets used in a crime, include the serial number on your bill of sale and keep a copy.

John is right. According to Federal law all two residents of the same state have to do is the seller needs to be reasonably sure the purchaser isn't a restricted person, ie., a convicted felon. If not, do as John said. Though South Carolina may have other regulations beyond the Fed. law.
