there are alot of complaints about some of the 556 features. I heard it would recieve changes before production. So I have a couple questions, whats the est. price and what are those supposed changes?
5/2/2006 1:59:28 PM EDT
[#1]
I read that MSRP is estimated at around $1200, which is not too shabby considering AR's seem to be push $1000 these days.

No clue on the changes, although I know a lot of people seem to dislike the stock (want a folder not an M4 stock) and the forend is considered butt ugly by some.

those are some of the changes I thought I heard about. Especially a switch to the folder. I remember there were a bunch of p-shops of what production 556s would look like.

Hopefully they make it look like the original rifles.

exactly. I love the 55X rifles. Id have to buy one.

I want the original sights back, not that puny little flip up 'for emergencies' job.

Give me the original stock back. The M4 stock looks like a cheap aftermarket add on.

And lastly, make the lower at least look like the original with it's clean lines.

I don't know...I just wanted a REAL SIG-55X...not a bastardized SIG-AR hybrid. Are there improvements that could be made to the 55X lineup? I'm sure there are, but let us make them!

Another thing I cant help but agree with. Why should these airsoft kids get something closer to a rear 55X?
5/2/2006 11:12:25 PM EDT
[#7]
That rail integrated flip up emergency sight is the exact same as the one they used on the SIG552.  Was playing with a real one at the LE SIG table at Knob creek, and thought it was exactly the same.  Sure looks that way.  A more conventional folding sight would be better on a full size rifle I think, but thats where they got the idea from.
5/3/2006 11:28:54 AM EDT
[#8]
wow there is a sight in that rail? I didnt know te 552 had one.

And the more I look at the "prototype" the more I like it. Id get it even if it came out like that which it isnt supposed to.

Here, we can't be having a discussion about this rifle without at least ONE pic of it! (taken from SIG's sight)

yes

thank god. This gun is perfect for me.

Does the 556 w/ the rail have a longer barrel or is if just a shorter hand guard?

I shall have one!

Does the 556 use a gas piston or direct impingement?
5/3/2006 3:28:05 PM EDT
[#15]
I hope they don't screw the people that do want a more modern take on the 550 with a choice of using different adjustable lop stocks and grips. The 550 is nice, but I'm not looking for a collectors piece and a folding stock is worthless to me. Making both would make everyone happy if that happens, but we'll see. They can keep an exact 550 copy if that's all they made, I'll spend that money on a more useful and customizable POF 16inch. Most modern takes on the M16/Ar are using adjusting stocks for a reason not stuck in the past with a set lop or just folding it in.  You see they realized that when making the new SCAR right?

556 Swat please, with a side of mags over easy.

I will definitely own one!

Piston I believe.

I emailed sig, they said no folder.

Damn...

If there was an option for a folder, it'd be a great deal.

from what I understand it takes AR stocks so you could still get one I think right? There might be an option. They just said it wouldnt come with one.

The Sig-55X works the exact same way an AK does. They use a piston attached to the bolt carrier and a two-lug rotating bolt.

All of the 'real' Sig-55Xs I've seen have HK-style drum rear sights.

Some 552s have a rail instead of the rear sight. It's directly on top, not raised like in the 556 pictures.

True on the regular 556 version.  The SWAT model uses the same lowered rail the 552 does.  Right on the reciever.  No idea what our recourse for drum sites may be.  Yes they can be changed out, before someone asks.  Just hold out for the SWAT model is what I'd recommend.

That will work for me, I don't have a problem with how it looks, only finding the best cheekpiece to work with it. It would be great if they made one that was a buy option and fit perfectly for it.

yeah me neither. There are 3 versions right? the base, swat, and L. I know what the swat consists of. What is the difference between the normal and the L. Since thats basically an AR stock I wonder if those buttstock "saddles" would fit on it.

I thought there was going to be the swat, a short and long version with the difference between the last two just being the length of the polymer forend, but things change. They say on the website there will be different versions to come, but I not sure what actually will be offered first beside the L and swat.

I think a Blackhawk cheekpiece should still fit fine with a little tricky tieing of some 550. Than there stock gloves but I'm having hard time finding someone who sells them.

I need something as an Aimpoint M3 is what I'm planning on mounting it with in a Larue mount.

Id like it with the shorter handguard. For some reasion I like to see a little BBL sticking out the end. Just to remind you its a rifle. I think the short handguard is the 556 in the pic above with the ACOG. The top is the longer one. And the middle is the swat.
5/4/2006 12:59:24 PM EDT
[#31]
The stock has to go. If I want an AR15, I'll get an AR15.
IMHO SIG should at least make their own collapsible stock and not use a DPMS stock.

Yeh me too, I want the handguard to only be as long as I need it to be in useful for mounting a right side sling attachment and proper length for me to place a vertical grip at. After that it's just extra unneccessary weight and something more to stick out around corners. It's just a carbine to me so I'll never put a bipod on it and use a powered scope so the shorty or the Swat will be my choice. Final decisions will only be really final once the moneys been spent. With it not even out yet and us seeing exactly what's offered, I'll only know for sure then.
5/4/2006 1:35:55 PM EDT

Im thinking the exact same as you. Even how I just want the sling and vertical grip. You and I should go get ours at the same time!

Gay? It looks pretty comfortable.

I agree. The pistol grip looks like the best part and complements the rest of the rifle. The stock, OTOH, looks out of place.

+1 more, that pistol grip looks damn comfy. It should be very near to the feel of the Hogue finger groove grips I love on my Beretta's so much. I would have changed it out to as close to that anyway. I'm looking at a TDI finger groove vertical grip to go with it.

What's weird is that some people are getting e-mails saying that changes would be made, and some say no folder or anything...........Too bad they dont make both versions

+1 on the ugly pistol grip and the stock sucks too.  But, they are both replaceable so I will not bitch too loud.  I'm glad Sig put another rifle on the market for us to choos if we like.  More rifles to choose from is a good thing.
