I am in the market for a gun safe, and want to buy one within the next two months. What brands are good? What brands are bad? Any features I should look for? Any features I should avoid? I have 4 handguns, 2 muzzleloaders, 3 shotguns, and a AR15/M4. It will be stored in the basement (unfinished) in my new house. Any help and suggestions are appreciated. |

Anyone have brand suggestions? I do not want to spend thousands, but I do want a good quality safe. I am not 'that' worried about the true security aspects of the safe, since I have an residential alarm, a shepard, and a squad in the driveway. I just want a good solid safe that will house all my weapons. |
| I just picked up a scratch and dent safe from Bass Pro Shop. Its a 24 gun, fire rated 30min at 1200 deg and digital keypad. There was one scratch on the back side that it got from being unloaded. Its a Redhead and cost me 460.00 out the door. If you have a Bass Pro close see if the have a catalog return store and check there. Hope this helps some. |

I have a Cannon American Eagle that is great. I have had it 2 years and I am getting ready to sell it to my father and get a larger one. I personnaly like mechanical locks instead of the keypad types. Just my opinion. BUY BIG the first time. I should have..... Also get a golden rod and some dessicant for your safe if it's going in a basement. |

| I have a champion and it suits me fine.......right now. The thing about safes is that you really don't know how good they are until your house catches on fire and it is the only thing left standing or someone tries to break into it. Whichever brand you decide on make sure it is at least rated for 1200 degrees for 30 minutes. That shouldn't be a problem as i believe it is an industry standard. If you are not going to bolt it to the floor make sure that it weighs at least 500 lbs. |
