I'm visitor here, and am relating info about a project 3 of us over on AR developed. I mentioned it in the Tricks thread. We built a long, super strong, 12ga Paradox style cartridge, by putting 12ga size rim on bmg cases. 1st picture of our case next to regular 12ga case which can also be fired in our chambers. 2nd pic is my Savage 210 that I used for cartridge with a heavy barrel and stock.Ed Hubel

WOW! Does that have to be a destructive device under the National Firearms Act? I have wondered about that with regular shotgun sluggs, over 50 cal. I guess there is a loophole for shotguns. I wonder if your rifle is also covered by that. edited because I see now it can also shoot regular shells. Not trying to be a killjoy. Just wanting to make sure it's all legal. |

That is probably going to save them from any problems right there. It's still a shotty but it can also take this monster shell At the very least guys thread that barrell so you can attach a brake when slug hunting... Whats the weight of that bastard pictured. Shotty and projectile please. |

It doesn't kick bad as it weighs 25 lbs, and has thick recoil pad. Long barrel, 31" helps. Kicks about like a 10 lb 458 Lott. Yes it is legal as it is technically just a 12ga 3 3/4 inch, and my barrel is marked that way. Title 18 of GCA exempts shotguns from being DDs(thank goodness for all shotgun owners would be registered and paying $200 tax per gun) and in asking bureaucrats, that means any type of case(paper, plastic, brass, aluminum, steel), any practical length, any projectile or shot, rifled barrel or smooth.Here is picture of the nice African style one Rob built on the Borchardt falling block.Ed Hubel http://www.hunt101.com/img/349129.JPG |

Rob has a double set trigger on his.His handles high pressures, and he got 750 gr bullet out at 3000 fps. I got a 327gr sabot out of my Savage at 3900, just to test it.Got 870 gr hardened cast slug over 2300.I keep my pressures at about 30,000 psi. The Savage has a big 3 lug bolt head and would go real high pressures if action was thicker. I am trying to find someone to make a heavy, thick action to put bolt in. Here is picture of a case I reloaded and fired 36 times, sectioned. Cost--Did my own work- gun $400--Used a barrel that was a second $50- $20 heavy stock - Brass- $100. Pad $40-reamed chamber on lathe. So I have about $600. If you use first class barrel $300 and $100 stock blank, reamer, brass you will have a grand in it, doing your ownwork. Gunsmith charges I don't know. Rob did his work with expensive action, and fancy stock wood, and he has $3500 plus in it.Ed |
Full Power Shot™ anyone ?  Wouldn't be a DD because it could be classed as a shotgun. The same way single-shot .410's can chamber/fire .45LC. Might make a good gator-gun. If it were semi-auto ( no way, lol) or pump-action, might have uses for dangerous game or defense against bears, etc.
