M1887 was the lever...My Grandfather has one....

1897 was definately a hammer pump. The lever was the 1901 model.

Edit: It was also the 1887 model.

Winchester Model 1887; lever action 10 and 12 ga.
Winchester Model 1901; lever action, nickel steel barrel for smokeless loads, 10 ga. only.(?)
Winchester Model 9410; lever action, newer manufacture, .410 2-1/2" only.
The Model 1897 is a pump with exposed hammer.

The 1887, 1901, and 9410 are the only lever action shotguns by Winchester that I am aware of. HTH

Tristar had a copy of the 1887. I believe that they are made in Australia. At one point they were going to bring them into the US, but it fell through.
