I was in a local gunshop yesterday and spotted a Savage Model 99 in .300 Sav, reblued so the metal is NIB condition, the wood while not pretty is in very good shape, the bore is showing good shape rifling and it has the brass counter. The shops wanting $549. How’s the price sound? Brent |
| three years ago that would have been outragously high. however, over the last couple of years 99 prices/value have been shooting through the roof. it also depends on what variety it is also. they came plain jane to delux. still seems a bit high for a refinish to me. the going price at gun shows around here seem to be in the $450- $500 range. remember those are show prices. |

That's high for a refinished 99. Most of the higher price 99's have collector value. If that one did and it was refinished, the collector value is finished too... Keep looking and you'll find one cheaper. Unless you're sold on the 300 Savage cartrige, you may hold out for a .308. It's easier to find ammo for... God Bless, Doc S |
The collector's value mean nothing to me. For years all my dad ever talked about was finding a Savage 99 in .300 Sav. He never seemed to be able to find one, and I've hunted for him for a few years myself. I've found .300 sav cambered rifles but never a Savage 99, or I found 99s but in other calibers. Well I found this one, and I think I'll buy it for him, BUT I'm about 3 years to late, he passed away in May of 2003. ![]() |

Make them a cash offer of say... $475 If they refuse, and you want it, pull the manager off to the side and make a deal. After all, what's a $100 or so in the grand scheme of things ?? Sometimes you have to pay a little more to get what you want in order to not miss an opportunity. I too love the 99's, and one in 300 Sav is it!! |
