All of the anti gun people I know keep saying how "deadly, cheap,  and common" the tec-9 is.  I have never seen one before. Could someone post a pic so I know what these guys are talking about? Thanks.

Well Chucky Schumer shot one and there is a pic available on the internet showing him with a big shit eating grin with a Tec-9 in his hands.  Tec-9's are famous for being manufactured with finger print resistant finishes.   didn't you know?  They also have plastic frame which make it easy to sneak them through airport security and stuff....

Asside from the fact that you can't even throw them straight they are about as reliable as a weather forecast.

So they're cheap pieces of crap that look scary, and are often refered to as "deadly assault weapons" by the morons who listen to gun control propaganda.  Some guy was telling me about how our society is doomed because criminals are buying incredibly cheap AKs and Tec-9s at local gun shops. He thought they were full auto too. I had a little chat with him about gun laws,  and he left in disbelief.

They're as accurate as the shooter handling them. I've had one for over 10 years it is one very accurate gun.

Yes well if I ever see a Tec-9 used in a Target competition or even a video of documenting your claim I'll eat my own shoe.

Come shoot with the northern IL crew sometime, you can shoot mine, then you can eat my shoe, and keep yours to walk home with. If you don't own one, STFU about them.

It will hit target at 15 yds.  About same quality as Llamas, but less rough.

Tec 9, reliable and accurate?

I've seen quite a few in the $200 - $300 range. You are the first person I've ever heard say anything positive about a Tec 9. If you have one that runs decent, good for you, but I'd grab a Jennings before a Tec.

Grab your Jennings, I'm sure it's as accurate at 25 yards as my Tec.

As for the critics, the Tec-9 has been criticized for its cheaply finished construction, and some of the most common complaints include:

Machining marks that are clearly visible on many components, poor factory blueing jobs with obvious streaks and patchiness. I admit this gun wasn't designed to win any beauty pageants, but mine's nice flat black, and finish is very consistent.

The machined metal edges are reasonably smooth, there are some exceptions where some deburring could be done; in particular the perforations in the heat shroud, which have been very rough edged on some Tec-9s, (mine must have been one of the "lucky ones" - it seems to have none of these rough edges)

It has non-adjustable sights are made of punched sheet steel that are spot welded to the upper receiver. The sights aren't the most uniquely engineered, but they are extremely sturdy, reliable, and in my gun's case, seem to be aligned perfectly with the barrel.

It's picky about the types of ammo it will feed reliably. It feeds hard round-nosed and pointy-nosed FMJ types very reliably, even aluminum cased CCI/Blazer ammo which many other pistols have problems with. The problem is that Tec-9s will not reliably feed any hollow-point or other flat-nosed bullets at all. It's feeding preferences are stated very clearly in the owner's manual, but some critics tend to ignore this and then complain about feeding problems when they are really just using ammunition for which the gun was not designed.

The 5" barrel isn't loose within the receiver in fact it's permanently attached to the upper receiver with its integral sights. They're all lined up - it results in accuracy. The bolt is the only thing that moves inside the receiver. The trigger isn't light, but it has a pretty smooth, although long, pull. It's a tool that's as effective as its user. It is by design a single-action trigger.

Only when I've let it sit uncleaned and unlubricated have I had the occasional problem with bolt not fully closing up after loading a fresh mag, but a quick clean and lube solves that problem every time.

If my gun had any of the vast problems everyone likes to shout about, I'd have sold it long ago. I love the fact that it runs like a champ, and is fairly damn accurate. My only use for it ever has been as a range toy, and anyone that expresses interest or insult toward it is offered the chance to shoot it. YMMV. I find it somewhat amusing that people that like firearms will cast negative comments on guns based on rumors or WAG's. The same people will load up magazines of hollow points and then bitch and whine about how unreliable the gun is because it won't feed them. Would you put diesel in your gasoline tank and expect your car to run well?

If you want a second opinion of mine, you're welcome to shoot it if you ever happen to meet up with me at an ARFshoot, or ask Robert - the owner of RBPrecision, a dealer on this board. He's shot mine on more than one occasion, in fact there's even a photo of him shooting it with a big grin on his face in the Blastfest II AAR thread in IL HTF.

edit: I'm actually thinking of adding a custom finish on it... if I do decide to do that, I might run a poll to see what color(s)

Congrats if you have a well functoning one. I've seen three that wouldn't cycle for their lives. Two of them were using FMJ's, but the other was anyone's guess so I can't really speak on that one. If yours is okay, more power to ya'. However, the track record is what drives me away reguardless of cool factor. I don't know though, if it was good enough for Kurt Russel.......
