How many people feel the 10mm Auto round is riding quietly off into the sunset? I remember when the Glock #20 came out equipt to shoot 10mm, it was one of the hottest rounds for a semi auto gun. Today I don't hear very much about this round. Now it is just 40S&W and maybe a 357 sig now and than. Are people still buying guns that fire this round? I know the 'omph' in the original Norma round has been lost and most commercial 10mm today is not much better than 40 cal Any thoughts? Thanks in advance! |

I think the 10mm will always have a strong, but small following. Ever seen the 10 ring at glock talk. More power than the .40, more rounds than the .45, and doubletap ammo will make any custom round you could want. If I was going into bear country, the Glock 20 would be my carry pistol. TXL |

I love my Glock 20. It's a bit underpowered, even with my standard Speer Gold Dot load of 180gr. @ 1300fps/ 676ft/lbs, but I can't carry a rifle all the time.  my carry ammo  |
You sir, are misinformed. While the 10mm is not the hot new thing on the market like it was in the mid-eighties, it is still quite popular with knowledgeable pistol packers. The standard 10mm load is still the ass kicker that the original Norma round was. It is just the FBI spec downloaded pussy version that is near .40S&W levels. Comparing full powered 10mm to the .40 is like saying there is no difference between .357 Mag and .38 special. One of the most common 10mm rounds, the Winchester 175 grain Silvertip, packs as much punch at 100 yards as the .45 auto does at the muzzle. It is also a popular handgun hunting round because the trajectory is extremely flat at 100 yards. The 10mm is very versitle, available in weights from 135 grain to over 200. |
I guess was I was illuding to is the flexibility in the 40 S&W round as well as the 10 mm. I have seen some pretty hot 40 rounds too. By no means the potential of the 10 mm, but hot by any measure. I believe a hot 40 can be as potent as some of the commerical 10 mm out there. My thought is the standard commercially produced 10mm ammunition sold by Federal or the like is just not that spectacular of a round. I was looking at some tables and they rated a handful of manufacturers right around 1000 ft/sec. I do realize there are manufacturers who have tried to get back to the original Norma design, but still fall a bit short. I believe the first poster is correct, I think there will always be a small elite following for most rounds, but for the 10mm the group seems to be getting smaller. Anther hot round comparible to 10mm is 400 CorBon, but you don' hear that much about that round. |

I've made plans to get rid of my 10mm's, GLOCK 20 & 29. I'll eventually trade them in on a pair of GLOCK replacements in 40 S&W. The ammo is way cheaper and easier to find, plus the guns fit my hand better. I loved the 10, but it just cost too much to shoot for my tastes. |

Well I never let what is popular or cheaper get in the way of shooting the best handguns and ammunition I can get my hands on. My only gripe with the G20 is I want even more power, but I don't want the gun to get any bigger. I might have to wait for laser pistols for that to happen. |
