Looking back in a Gun Trader's Guide, I see the Thompson 1927 A-5 semi-auto listed in the handgun section. It was made from '77 to '94. It looks like a std Tommy without a buttstock and is 26" in overall length. Is this an AOW???? When did the AOW thing start? During the '94 to '04 ban? I am quite perplexed. h.gif |
I'm guessing without seeing a pic. But if it's 26 inch in length, and a 16 inch barrel, than it's a rifle. A rifle doesn't technically have to have a buttstock all the time. I think. |
| Oops. I guess I should have been more detailed. The weapon looks like 1928 w/o buttstock or cutts. 10" barrel and "classic" thompson vertical foregrip. "Does not have detachable buttstock." Takes drum mags too. I supose if any handgun witha vertical froegrip is an AOW then this is too. Waddyathink? |
Sounds like an AOW (or it could be a SBR). Either way it would be NFA. |

the A5 barrel was longer than 10" to keep the overall lenth up to the minimum 26" that at the time at least kept it from the aow catagory...it had a 13" barrel the main sticking point these days if there is one,is the forward pistol grip.....and that would be ok if replaced with the military horizonal fore end. the A5 receiver is marked Pistol so it was made as a pistol from the start(not SBR) that makes it no different than a carbon 15 pistol law wise(once it has a horizonal fore end) these days if you have a glock with the rail, and put the pistol grip made to fit the fore arm picitinny rails on a ar15...on your glock rail (PRESTO!instant AOW subject to fed law) |
