Here is some background. I have a standard Bushmaster AR-15 with Tritium night sights. I also have a Fulton Armory Phantom 20" with a 4-12 power scope sited in at 500 yards. I would like to have the same options in 30 caliber. Currently I have an M1 Garand that I would leave with iron sites. I also have an M1A that could be scoped. What is your opinion? Would you scope the M1A and use the Garand for shooting under 200 yards? If you would scope the M1A which scope and mount would you choose?

Thanks for your opinions.

The Garand is not the easiest rifle in the world to scope. B-Square makes one although I've never seen one used anywhere.

The M1A uses a Springfield scope mount but I've seen firsthand problems with them. Some may very well like them, I don't know?

If it were me, I'd leave them both iron sights like they were intended. If I wanted a scoped .308, I'd go to an AR-10, which I did.

I took my scope off my M1A because it kept shooting loose (springfield, 3rd gen). The way I see it, iron sights on my battle rifle for shooting large targets out to 300 yards, anything farther than that and I'll switch to the .300 win mag.
