I’m currently in the process of getting a Colt 6920. Finding one for sale, find the funds, etc. I hope to have one in the next couple of months. While researching AR15s I began to think about my current collection. It is not all that large but I have a long wish list. I really want to keep it collection small. I would much rather have an elite collection of 4-6 arms than 10-15+ of other firearms. Also I been thinking it would be nice to standardize my ammo. I don’t want to keep on hand 5.45x39, 7.62x39, surplus 7.62x54r, non corrosive 7.62x54r, 223, 308, 40S&W, etc. My thinking about selling off most everything and reinvesting into a new smaller higher end collection. While I’m looking for accuracy, I’m not looking for a bench shooter or competition rifles. BTW, I still plan on going with the 6920 but it is not too late to change my mind if something would better suit the bill. Possible list so far Colt 6920 – short to medium range weapon M21 or M25 – medium to long range weapon Kimber or Sig 45cal - sidearm Mossberg 590 or Remington 870 – short ranged weapon I wondered about a FAL, Steyr Scout, & Remington 700. I have also thought about a SMG or carbine….perhaps a SBR 9mm AR. Any thoughts? |
I had a nice collection of imported and domestic "assault weapons" a couple of years ago. I sold most of it off to finance the purchase of a registered Colt M16. My dozen-plus collection is now 6 firearms that are worth more than my original collection. I have the full-auto carbine, a high-powered rifle, a couple of shotguns, a handgun, and a rimfire. Pretty much something to cover about every facet of firearms ownership. I have about $750 in my cheapest firearm. |

I've got what I think will work for me, Long Range: .308 DSA FAL with 14X Springfield scope Intermediate: Colt SP2 6551 with 4x Colt scope .223 Norinco AK 7.62x39 M1 Garand 30.06 Close: Ithaca Mod 37 12 ga 20" barrel Rossi 12 Ga Stagecoach 20" barrels Inland M1 Carbine Handguns: Beretta 96 .40 Remington 1911A1 These are my "serious" guns, the other thirty five or so are milsurps and hunting guns but do work well. rk |
Yeah, but in a few years that $3K rifle will probably still be a $3K rifle, while a $13K rifle may be a $20K one. I just prefer quality over quantity, but that's just my personal opinion. My calibers are .22LR, .223, .308, .45, and 12-gauge. All pretty common and easily obtained. Did I mention that all but the shotguns are suppressed as well? |
Hey, looks like a nice collection to me. How do you like the DSA FAL? |
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking a FA M16 in any way. Just that I can sell every firearm and still have a long way to go for the M16. I want quality but that is just out of my ballpark. Someone suggested the AR10 or KAC SR-25 for a nice long ranged semi-auto. Any opinions on those two? |

Collect what you want, and what you enjoy. I've been collecting for 2 years now and I have 57 firearms, all of which I shoot and maintain on a regular basis. Yes, a majority of them are milsurps, and I don't have the need or what for MG's but i do have quality pieces in my collection. |

The down-side is ammunition logistics. |
Yeah, I know that your not knocking anything, and I fully understand. I would definitely go with a few expensive firearms over many cheap ones. Again, quality over quantity. As far as machineguns go, you can get an entry level MAC for around $2500 and it can only appreciate in value. I had an ArmaLite AR-10A4 at one time, and can say that I would highly recommend it. Roentgen, that's some collection you have there. |

Up Close & Personal(0-35 yards): SIG-Sauer P228 9mm pistol, Remington 870 12 Gauge w/10-shot magazine extension & Cylinder Bore choke tube... Close Range: M4gery-type Carbine thingy w/EO-Tech 552 sight. Intermediate: M1A w/KAC M14 RAS-mounted EO-Tech 552. I'll add an EO-Tech detachable magnifier when they become available...that should easily make this a 400 yard set-up. In a pinch, this could be pressed into service in the spot above it or below it. Long Range: Remington 700 VSSF .308 w/Leupold Vari-X III 3.5x10x50 equipped with target knobs. This what I have & it works for me...YMMV |
