I have a strong hankering for a G3-type rifle. CETME wouldn't be bad, but I want to buy with confidence a rifle that I can presume will be reliable. And I don't want to pay however many grand for a real HK! So is the ORF G3 in circulation? It says at their site 'Temporarily Sold Out', so I assume some are floating around out there. Are they pretty true to the HK G3? (Won't have problems putting on G3 accessories and whatnot). Do they make their own barrels, or have someone make them? Or are they milsurp? Seems like a great price, so any feedback on these would be appreciated! |
I am about three weeks ahead of you in the G3/HK91 search. You may want to give a long hard look at the JLD PTR-91. LINK HERE. ORF has in the past used G3 receivers made by Special Weapons/Todd Bailey, which were produced from original dies from a HK licensed manufacturer in Portugal. Lately they have bought their own dies from H&K. Supposedly they may be producing G3 rifles sometime next year. JLD bought their G3 dies and tooling from that same Portugese factory. They have been producing G3 receivers for a while now. Serial numbers are over 2K. They use brand new parts kits plus the right amount of US parts. The rifles have a good reputation for quality of finish, fit, and build. Both ORF and JLD have excellent reputations for quality. JLD had some early problems with the first 250-or-so rifles, but everyone I've read about said JLD fixed them no questions asked. I tried for two weeks to contact Todd Grove at ORF, ARFCOM IM, email and phone messages. No response. They are very caught-up in producing HK94 receivers or some such. Bottom line is, although I would like to have considered them, there's nothing to consider. I have a PTR-91 on-order from SARCO, should be here by the end of the week. Hope this helps. Do some searches on HKPRO.com and over in the HK forum here. Look up PTR and JLD and you'll get a good amount of background. C_M |
Weird. I E-mail Todd Grove a couple times a week and never have to wait more than a few hours for a response. |
