We haven't been able to import them legally into the United States since 1989. There aren't any parts kits or US made receivers either, so we can't make our own until Sig starts manufacturing new rifles at their US plant. That probably will never happen given how anal the Swiss are (and protective of their native industries), so it will take either the reversal of the 1989 importation ban of foreign "assault rifles" or an act of God. That Sig 550 you own is the match rifle version, correct? What kind of groups do you get at 100 yards (or 100 meters in your case)? How reliable is your rifle? Is that a full 30 round mag or 10 rounds? Nice Elcan by the way. themao

It is blue so that it is less evil than black... I don't know why they did it that way but you can buy them in blue, red, black, and green up here. The blue ones came in first and tend to cost less on the used market due to the color hence why I bought it as it was a good deal. They cost about $3000 CAN new + tax up here. They where imported as target rifles but their is not much difference between it and a military Sig550 other than it is semi auto. The barrel is heavier than a AR15 A1 but not as heavy as an H-bar. It will group around 1moa but is not quite as good as my AR15 H-bar with freefloat tube. I would really like to have it freefloated and with a 1:7" twist barrel (comes with a 1:10" twist). However, I can't seem to find either the 1:7" barrel or a free float tube. On the up side it is non-restricted up here so I can hunt with it, I can't take my AR15 off of the gun range because it is restricted and needs permits to transport. The mag is a 30rd but it is fixed to only hold 5rds as is the limit here in Canada. Really stupid law BTW as most fixed mags can be unfixed with little effort and be returned to their full capacity, but that would be breaking the law. As for reliablity... it is fantastic compaired to any of my AR15s. I've shoot over 1000rds through it on a weekend and the action was still cleaner than my AR15s after they've only seen 100rds. I sold two of my three AR15s to pay for it and I feel that it was worth it. I've only ever had one stopage with the BlueStar and that was when a primer fell out of a reloaded federal case and it stopped the bolt from closing. It cleared with simple recocking due to the fact that there is a hole for objects to fall out from if they get into the locking lug area. When this same problem has happend with my AR15 it is not cleared quite as quickly. I've been thinking of refinshing it to another color like green with the plastic left black but I'm not sure... I sort of like the blue. |
In case you didn't know this already.....YOU SUCK Nice rifle. |
Thanks for the input. The closest thing to a Sig 55x we'll be getting soon is the Robinson Arms XCR rifle. I would love to have a Sig 551 with a 16" barrel though. You know, B&T's Sig handguard might be free floating, although I guess you can't really have a free floating AK because the gas tube is welded to the damn barrel. There is no barrel nut on an AK/Sig like there is on the AR either. themao

It's not the lethality of the 55x that keeps them from America. It's the stingey Swiss Arms owners that make this problem so. Sig America knows the market as does Swiss Arms but Swiss Arms is a questionable company that obviously is not very fond of the United States. I feel bad for Sig and if I won the lottery I'd buy them out just so they didn't have to be associated with Swiss Arms. Even before the import ban and long before the AWB ban, Swiss Arms laughed at the United States markets want for this rifle. Many have pursued this and gotten the same answer from Sig. We want to but they won't let us for reasons unkown. My advice is e-mail Swiss Arms non stop just to annoy them. Maybe they will quit ignoring America if they get annoyed. Sorry, seeing 550 Series rifles gets me flaming pissed that Swiss Arms chooses to ignore the American civilian market and I can't have one. Did I mention I'm jealous? Very nice rifle man.

Boy I thought it was bad where I live but that is bad.
Thats kind of like HK not wanting to sell crertain guns here either. |
| Atleast we got the SL8's and USC's. H&K will propably start going after the civilian market now that the XM8 was dumped. Maybe we will get a more accurate G36 re-pop. They can keep the XM8, I want some H&K made MP5's, G36's, UMP's, and maybe an MP7 wouldn't be such a bad idea seeing as the P90 is being released. Oh well, wishful thinking. |

Does anyone have a link to that guy's post about Canada's screwy gun laws? The one where he shows the three classes of guns With photos Where there is absolutely no logic behind what is in which class? |
Kanada sucks Ae? No Aks because they have to many Arab/Islamic immagrants, don't want to give them any idae's, Ae. AR-15 is American, so its obviously evil Ae. Sig is European, of course they are always right, Ae. I lived in Europe for 5 years, they are the biggest hippocrites in the entire world its disgusting. What is the link and Email to Swiss? I'm going to annoy them till the give me a coupon to shut the #@% up. (VW gave me a free hat to piss off.) |
| The gun laws here in Canada will drive you insane if you try to understand them... there is no logic or sense to be made of them other than they where ment to make gun owners insane so that they could then have their weapons taken or some shit like that. I think that they just got ahold of a few gun magazines in the 90's and just banned those that scared them. My Bluestar is a PE90 which is a semiauto Sig550.... the Sig550 is prohib as is the PE90 but the BlueStar is not.... Like I said there is no logic to it. Also our hicap mags must have a pop rivit or similar device to prevent more than 5rds being loaded... like a criminal will not stop and remove said rivit before commiting a gun crime? You can have the mag dissasembled to and it is legal but assemble it without the rivit and you get 5years vaccation. FN FAL rifles are prohib here to which drives me nuts as I used to use then in the forces and loved them.... I'll stop now before they come to see if I'm still sane or not. |
No parts kits....no receivers.... Au Contraire Mon Fraire...... SIG 551 Receivers and Upper Assemblies
|
Your welcome to move to the states and commute to work, seeing Canada has massed 90% of its population against our border... I'm sure for evil intentions also. |
| Canada's gun Laws are designed by people who learned everything they know about guns from T.V. Why else could you have 3 very similar rifles: FN, AR-10, M-14 - all gas operated .308 magazine fed and have 1 prohibited (FN) 1Restricted (AR-10) and one that you do what you want with (M-14) and since the laws are made up on a gun by gun basis these laws are out of date very quickly. That's why I can buy an AI .50 cal with no restriction, but if I acquired a Barret .50 I would get up to 5 years in jail.hinking.gifCould somebody pass the prozac? |
Seriously does anybody have a link to or know how to search for that guy's recent (month or two ago) post where he shows photos of what is restricted, allowed, prohibited, etc. He used phraseologly like "now lets kick it up a notch" ? |
| So recievers and parts kits for the Sig are available. According to the information on this site here it is legal to build a gun on one of these recievers so long as you aren't the importer, and you meet the parts count requirements for 922(r). But there are no domestic parts for the Sig 55x, so that doesn't get you anywhere. Now couldn't you register your Sig reciever as an SBR? At that point you wouldn't have to meet the parts requirements of 922(r) right? Then you just need to find someone to build it for you. |
If I understand the law correctly ("law" that is, its just another BATFE arbitrary decision), then the imported receivers may only be used for replacement of an existing receiver ("repair" purposes) |
