Need to know the thread pitch for the muzzle of an M-60 GPMG.   I *think* it's 5/8-24, but don't know if it's a left or right hand thread (or if that thread pitch is even the correct one).
Anyone have a definate answer?

Thanks gang.

IIRC, as a Marine M-60 gunner, it is indeed RH pitch thread. I have no idea of the pitch size though, sorry.

Durring the Vietnam War, Aussie SAS troopers modified a few SLR's (Aussie FAL's) by cutting the barrel down to about 14.5" and installing an M-60 flash hider (which was less prone to "open up" like a bananna peel).   Coupled with an L2a1 "full auto" selector switch, rear sight (more of a "ghost ring" than a standard SLR rear peep), and a 30rnd 7.62mm "Bren" mag stuffed 100% with tracer, said "bitch guns" (as they were fondly nick-named) were used to "hose" the enemy on initial contact (to fool "charlie" into thinking there was a GPMG in the partol....scared the crap outta' em! LOL).

Anyways.......I've aquired an L1A1 bbl that's been chopped to 18".   Not too useful for me as-is.....however  I can take it down another few inches, silver solder a "60" flash hider on, and build quite a nice replica of a "bitch gun".
