Or, bolt action pros and cons.

CZ 550
Win M70 pushfeed or controlled feed
misc Mausers
Savage
Remington 700
Ruger
etc

Also, does anyone use a Browning A Bolt?  They look pretty in magazines but I only know one person that owns one, he never shoots it, and no one online seems to prefer them.

I like Weatherby's. Short bolt throw, ultra strong action. Good lightweight options. Accurate and well made.

Sako too, for the same reasons, plus the five available actions sizes.

My favorite is my Krag.  The action's smooth as glass and it shoots like it's part of you.

My most accurate is my Ruger M77V in .25-06.

My best all around is my sporterized M1903 Remington.

My "most evil looking" is my sporterized FR-8 in a black composite stock.  That flash suppressor is cool.

My "most odd" is my M1911 Swiss Karbine (I do need a K-31 one of these days).

I have a Rem 700 in .308 . It does what it was designed to do very well , but the truth is it's my least used firearm .

I'm quite partial to Remington bolt rifles.  There's just something about them that calls to me.  I love my Model 7 to death.  If I were buying another rifle, it would probably be a 700 Mountain Rifle in stainless with a laminated stock.

Never shot an A-Bolt, but I've always loved the look.  Been window shopping them for a few months.  If I had the money, I'd probably buy one in 270 or 243.

Remington 700. One of the best actions for precision shooting. Used by the USMC and countless governemnt agencies. Doesn't get any better... unless maybe the Barrett 82A.

US M1917 .30-'06 Enfield.  As accurate as but stronger than a Mauser 98, and as fast as a Brit Enfield,  with fewer action parts than either.

Remington 700 for me, thanks... Most "pros"(US military, feds, etc...) are using a 700 or 700 varient, 700s dominate the bench rest competitions, and ALL the accuracy smiths and best barrel manufactures build off the 700 - think that collectively they all know something???

As for the Weatherby action being stronger, I've never heard that their action is stronger than a 700 - and the Vanguards aren't even close to being as strong as a 700 is...

Mauser 98:  'nuff said
Mosin Nagant:  makes the AK look like a dainty, delicate safe queen, the perfect 'just in case' SHTF trunk rifle.
Remington M600:  Sweet handling, though can be a bit obnoxious with it's carbine length barrel.

But then I like old military rifles & don't hunt.  The (English) Enfields have never really done much for me, they just seem heavy & clunky compared to the Mauser.

Remington Model 660 and 600 carbines.  Short, light, slick, powerful, accurate.  I'm blessed to have a Model 600 in .308 and if I ever see a 660 in .350 Rem Mag for less than an arm and a leg I'm gonna buy it.

Rem700 with some work.......it's not perfect from the factory but some inexpensive changes gets it damn close.

I know I'm going to catch flack for this but...

...I'm not a huge Rem 700 fan.  How do you guys get consistent bedding on a reciever thats just a tube, its round so doesn't it want to roll side to side?  And the recoil lug isn't integral either.

Personally for hunting I like Mausers.  Controlled round feed, 3 locking lugs, claw extraction and more positive ejection than a spring loaded plunger (I can also control the force of ejection), integral recoil lug, and a 3 position safety.

I'm surprised more people have'nt said Savage either.  They're supposed to be as accurate out of the box as anything else these days, and cheaper too.  Some nice factory options, and an innovative head spacing system.  Of course they do lack in a few other areas *cough*fit and finish*cough*

What is that?

You mean Remington 700 PSS or Winchester 70 Stealth/II, right?

Speaking of Savage...The best buy out there is a 12BVSS in 308 w/accutrigger. I've got 3 Remington 700s and 4 Savages. The Savages consistently outshoot the 700s.

Savage 10FP AccuTrigger

Great trigger pull, dead on accurate, not absurdly expensive...

The Mauser design is great, but by the time you get a decent stock, a scope mount, a new trigger, a new barrel (unless you want to spend all that money to shoot corrosive 8mm) and get it all installed properly, you'll be at/over the price of the Savage, and may/may not be as accurate...

Ditto for any other sportierizing project...

FN SPR, 1st Generation.  Built on Win Pre '64 action and uses a chrome-lined machine gun barrel.  Gotta love it.  Sub MOA all day long.

To answer a question in the post, yes I had a Browning A-Bolt II Stainless Stalker with BOSS in .308 and it was a fine gun.  Nice tight groups after the BOSS was tuned (easily sub MOA).  I sold it to my ex-boss and he uses it to this day out to about 600 yards.  He loves it.
