My buddy and I just bought 2 new Century Cetme .308's. I have always liked these rifels as they look good and are very powerful! Both guns shoot about as good as a spray bottle filled with concreet!!!! Every 3 rounds or so both guns would jam with out fail!!!! We tried several new and used mags and nothing helps. I'm going back to the dealer to see if I can get my $$$ back.

Just a warning NEVER buy a CETME they are JUNK!!!!

Sorry to hear that. I just find it hard to believe Century Arms is still around. That POS CETME re-make/hack-job of theirs is like the flagship of their line-up. Makes me sick...

It's the replacement barrels that they used, and not the mags that are the problem.  The chambers are on the rough side, and the flutes tend to sharp and not have a solid flute flow line (at the start of the shoulder chamber cut)

If needed, you can polish out the chamber, then use a jewler's pin file to clean up the flutes.

Best bet is to at least get one that shoots where the sights are aiming, then fix the chamber yourself.

Like ARDOC said, the original CETMES imported by MARS are fine rifles.
As for the Century's...........wel live and learn, Buddy.

I just got a Cetme over weekend...put 50 rounds of Australian through it without any trouble whatsover.  Now, POI is 2 feet high and 2 feet left lol...hopefully, a scope mount and a red dot will take care of that.

Did you clean the rifle before you guys fired 'em?  There was a lot of cosmo in the action of mine, so you might want to make sure the barrel and chamber are good and clean.

Which receiver did you guys get?  The consensus seems to be that the stainless receivered ones are the best of what's available now, but I don't know how many of the newer ones (all, some?) have the SS receivers.

Go to www.cetmerifles.com and poke around...there's some good knowledge there..maybe they can figure out what's wrong with yours.

good luck!

Sorry to hear of your problems. If you haven't...... Clean the action , rollers/Bolt and Fluted chamber really well.Clean the Flutes with Solvent and scrub with a good brass or nylon brush.Get that gunk out of the chamber. Its got to be clean to extract. While normal shooting won't clog the flutes up... Cosmoline and dried grease will from long term storage. There was alot of dried grease in mine. Sometimes the Recievers need X amount of rounds through them to wear the high spots down and get a smooth slide to it. Or a drememl with a very fine polishing wheel on it if you have a rough spot. Century is normally the problem. The Cetme's are good rifles when set up correctly. Good Luck WarDawg

It's not that the CETME is junk, it's that the Century made receivers are junk. I had two and returned them for a refund. The MARS CETMEs imported before the '89 ban are fine, reliable rifes (they are also selling for about $2500).

I will never, ever buy another Century arms weapon again. They ruin anything they touch.

What ammo were you shooting? Make of ammo?

You roll the CAI dice, you take your chances!

I have a Century L1A1 that runs like a charm. My buddy bought a CETME and it was a turd at first. Like was mentioned, we did some polishing on the internals and really cleaned it up. It's still not 100%, but if you stick to good surplus it runs good.

There is, obviously, a reason they're not $1000.

I had a Cetme .308 from CAI for awhile....the safest place to be when that thing was firing was DIRECTLY in front of it.....You couldn't hit the ground around a barn with that thing, much less the barn itself.  Fortunately, I traded it to a guy for my first AR, who had several and wanted something really loud to play with.

Mine is no precision rifle, but it works well.  Luck of the draw.

Clean it VERY well, then clean it again.  CAI apparently does not own any solvent.

I have one that is decent, but it was one of the older $500.00 +/- rifles that were selling about 6 years ago, not the ones that have been selling for the last couple of years for $200.00.  I don't know what the difference is, but mine shoots pretty good.  Open sights put a group just under 2" @ 100 yards and when I put my scope and bipod (heavy steel bipod that clamps to barrel) on, it gets a little better.  I did have to spend about 2 hours cleaning it when I first got it though.  It's like CAI swept the floor and dumped everything into the receiver.  It will jam up with one clip, but the 3 others I have feed fine.  It's a beauty with all the wood matching in color and sealed up with some old Hoppe's gun stock finish my uncle had in a cabinet.
