I want a machinegun, but don't see the value of $10K sunk into an M16/DIAS etc. (would rather spend on lots of non-NFA toys). I'm thinking about a pistol-caliber SMG like MAC10, Uzi or similar. Want it for hosing fun and maybe occassional subgun competitions. Wants to be a long-term proposition too (i.e. parts can be replaced indefinitely as they wear out). Any suggestions from those in the know ? |

For the price, I think you would be hard pressed to do better then an UZI. They are rugged and can do a whole lot for under $5K. See: www.uzitalk.com |
| M11's are still one of the best buys in the MG world, though they are getting up there. Lots of accessories and upgrades you can take advantage of. An M11 was my first NFA, and I'll probably never sell that one. OTOH, I know you said you didn't see the value in the RDIAS, but I really like them. If I didn't have any MG's and just wanted one, I would happily spend $10k for one. There is no other MG that has the versatility of the M16 platform; the only thing that even comes close is an HK sear which will also run about $10k, but then you have to buy the more expensive HK (and clone) host guns in which to use the sear. Uzi's are nice, but more than double the price of an M11...and the M11 can be cheaply and easily modified and upgraded to be competitive with much more expensive subguns. I have or have had them all (RDIASs, HK sears, M11's in 9mm and .380, and the Uzi). Out of all those, the one I use and enjoy the most by far is the RDIAS. |
