I am shopping for a scope for my new FAL. After reading many posts here at ARFCOM I have narrowed my search down to either an Elcan or an ACOG, and right now I am leaning toward the ACOG.

DSA advertises 15 different ACOGs at prices ranging from $800 to $1400. From what I can discern, Elcans come in either 3x or 6x.

Any suggestions on which ACOG or Elcan to mount on my FAL?

Well i would buy a scope from somebody like SWFA before DSA first of all.

ELCANS are good scopes with great low light capabilities, as long as you get the latest (gen 3? 4?) scope mount.  They are heavy and big though.

I like ACOGs smaller, lighter, cheaper.

I wouldn't go much over 4x whatever i get as a FAL isn't a precision rifle..although i did shoot a 1.37" group with mine this weekend.  The other nice thing about ACOGS is you will find a better mount seletction, the elcan only has one choice.

Of the choices I would go with a TA-11 ACOG and this mount

Personally I prefer the Aimpoint as it allows a better cheek weld for me.

you might find an elcan sits too high on an fal to be comfortable and most acog's have an eye relied problem with fals but the ta-11c with the mount pictured above would be sweet if you have the cash...

Thanks,

Get the above mentioned mount for sure.

Without it you will hate using the scope.

I have an ACOG TA-11C with this mount and it works great.

My head sits a little high on the stock but cheek weld is good and shooting is no problem once used to it.

As far as the ACOG goes, just get it.

Don't screw around with an ELCAN.  The glass on the ACOG is SUPER clear.  The donut (or chevron) is always illuminated at just the right intensity (even in total darkness with the tritium). The thing is tough as nails and SUPER easy to hit with the "donut of death."

You will not regret the ACOG for a second.

Oh, and check ebay...I found mine on there, brand new, for about $50 less than the out-of-stock dealers were asking.

Have shot both, and both scopes are cool, but AGOGs are clearer and have a better reticle IMHO.
