Can it be done? I really like the little carbine, but I'd love it if it's in .45. Obviously the barrel has to be changed, and bolt face enlarged. Can the magazine well handle Ruger's .45 mags? Will the pressure be too much? Being in California it's the next best thing to a Thompson.

.40 has a much higher operating pressure than .45. Don't worry about pressure.

I don't know if this helps, but have you looked into a Marlin carbine in .45acp.

...i would like one in 45....but why convert?.....seems like a venture not worth the time and $$$...certainly..40`s are available that are quite effective....yes..if there was a 45 i would invest...marlin quit making that carbine......there are a lot of camp nines around..and i got one for blasting..as well as small critters..(coyotes)..etc.....converting a 40 to a ten.....hhmmmm...now that sounds interesting......

The PC9 and PC40 Carbines are both capable of accepting hi-cap Ruger pistol mags. Some of these can be had legally, but new ones are restricted to LEOS, the intended market for the carbine.
IIRC, Ruger never made .45 mags greater than 7 or maybe, in the newer ones, 8-shot. No Ruger hi-caps were ever made in .45 cal that will fit a proposed PC45. Swapping 7-shot mags in a fight doesn't thrill me.
So, although I'd like so see one made, The AWB would have to sunset in order for Ruger to have sufficient market to produce hi-cap .45 mags that would fit a PC45.
Maybe.

Spoke to a Ruger rep at a sale in Atlanta yesterday. He said he has been lobbying hard for a PC45 and will continue to do so. He said the new management might be open to the idea.

A couple of years ago I saw an article in Soldier of Fortune about a company that was converting M1 carbines to chamber .45acp. This was before Ruger came out with the PC9.

I was just thinking, why didn't they do that back in WWII?
