Hi,
I curious about switching calibers on a pistol. I have a Browning HP 9mm and a Colt 45. Can I conver either of these pistols to 40 by changing the barrel or upper or both??

Nope. The springs on the .40S&W HP are a LOT stouter than the 9mm version. The breechface is also a different size on both guns & calibers.

I too own several .45acp's & several 9mm's but I have NO desire for a .45Lite. >gg<

The Browning also uses a heavier, wider slide and has a third locking lug on the barrel.

.40 is much shorter than .45. It usually only works in competition guns with reloads using bullets loaded farther out of the case to come close to the same over-all length of the .40

You wouldnt be happy with either choice.

The most common conversions are from .40 to .357 sig and vise versa. There are a few conversions to go from .40 to 9mm as well. From your description of what you're looking for, you may have better luck finding a .40 pistol that has a 9mm conversion available.

Rather than spend the money on a conversion, just buy an XD 40. Its what you want and feels like a 45.
