I have a 9mm Helwan Brigadier (berreta 92 clone).  It will extract cartridges manually with ease, but will not extract eject while firing.  Problem stays the same with a variety of loads and bullets.

Could the extractor be bad so as to eject manually, but not while firing.  Maybe the extractor slips over the rim after a cartridge fires???

I'm going to guess this is a new piece, and work from there..

Is the chamber well finished? This can cause the problem you're indicating, and it's one I've seen on many Helwans.

When it fails to extract, can you remove the fired case easily, or do you use a rod to tap out the fired casing?

fired case is very easy to remove by cyclying the slide manually.  It is not a new gun, it worked pretty well for 2 or 3 hundred rounds.
