I am in the market for a G3 and was looking for a bit of advice. 1. If it were you buying a G3, which models would be avoided. 2. Which ones would be a definate consideration. (my dollar range is $1000-$1500) 3. Where would you go to look. I dont see much conversation going on here about G3's. Ive seen very few for sale. Thanks to all, |

most of the G3s on the market are cheap century or FAC types, that are a crap shoot for the most part. if your looking to spend that kinda cash, their are less options. i havnt had any experiance with these, but most people seem to like these products: www.ohiorapidfire.com |
| If you can find an FMP G-3 with a fluted chamber buy it. FMP of Portugal is the only manufacturer outside of H&K to build licensed G-3's. I found one for $600, which is on the low side. You should be able to score a bunch of mags and maybe some optics while staying in your price range. |

I've been sort of interested in a G3 myself. I've shot a FAL, and I wasn't too impressed by it. Does anyone here have an Ohio Rapid Fire G3 that uses the century arms receiver? I'd like some info as to reliability, etc. Also, do they put a chrome lined barrel on these new post ban builds? I take it an original preban or the FMP Portugal receiver is the best way to go, using H&K parts. themao

I think that was the whole purpose of the design. You found the setting that cycled that particularly ammo reliably while using the least gas possible, thus placing less stress on the firearm. It also allowed you to use more gas as the rifle got dirtier in a combat situation. The other option being to do what H&K did and flute the chamber to ensure complete functionality. Problem with that is it buggers the brass if you reload and it makes for one very messy chamber to clean. So adjusting the gas isn't a Century issues, it is a design issue which you may or may not like. |
No, I didn't like. I also don't reload & that's why I sold the GD FAL & got my G3. |
| I have a G-3 Sporter from Century I got last summer. I paid like $450 or so for it. I put a HK buttstock, wide forearm, bipod and a B-Square scope mount on it with a Bushnell scope. Accurate as hell and can take out sheep sillohettes at 600 yards all day long. The only thing wrong with it was that the hammer wouldn't lock down when it cycled. I took the FCG out, found a spring maladjusted. Dremeled it a tiny bit and works great. Never had a hiccup since. |
