Is it ok to fire +P through the new Kimbers?  Specifically, can I use CORBON 230gr +P in my Custom Eclipse II?

If you've got a steel frame it shouldn't be any trouble at all.  They're built like tanks.

With an alloy frame it should be okay as a carry load but I wouldn't shoot it all the time.

The reason I asked is because I was under the impression that +P ammo was not meant for 1911's, since the 1911 was designed with low pressure ammunition.  I guess what I'm really asking is;  is the recoil spring in my gun sufficient for +P ammo?  If it isn't, there will be some serious strain on other parts.  The Kimber spring is much heavier than the one in my USP 45f, and it can take +P.  However, I have never seen any documentation from the Kimber web page or the owner's manual that says the Kimber can take +P.  I doesn't say that it can't, it just doesn't mention +P ammo at all.

Send Kimber an e-mail and ask them. I wouldn't use them until you hear from Kimber.

Personally, I don't know why anybody would need +P in a .45 auto. A good old-fashioned 230 grain hardball gives excellent feeding, accuracy and stopping power. Not to mention the price is reasonable.

+P is not necessary by any means in .45ACP, IMO.  The reason I ask is that the gun shops around me only have +P in CORBON hollowpoints.  I began testing different high end commercial loads today in my Kimber, and had to stay away from Corbon because I was afraid of the extra stress it would place on the gun.

One intersting note; the new Gold Dot HP's (nickle case, redesigned 5 cut bullet with rounder nose) was, for some reason, far less accurate in my Kimber than the old GDHP's (brass case, blunt point, 8 cut).  The old one's grouped one 8 round mag in two inches at 10 yards.  The new one's grouped about 4 inches.  I went back and forth between the two loads twice.  The results repeated.

slt223,I too purchased some +P CorBon 230gnrs some time ago.Basically just to compare. Not many rounds missing from the box.I wouldn't recommend using them too much on an alloy frame. You can upgrade to a stiffer spring.I think Wolffe(?)is probably the best from what I have heard here.I haven't got one myself.Did you just get your Kimber?Good choice.

Nitro, I got my kimber about 5 weeks ago.  I shhots quite well.  No malfunctions and great accuracy.  I figure I can always shoot the +P Corbon in my USP.  So far cheap ball ammo has shot better than GDHP's and Remington Golden Sabers.
