| My left eye is dominant. Should I start shooting left handed so my left eye is using the sights... would it matter if I used an ACOG vs a traditional scope. |

Everybody has one eye more dominate than the other, like 20/35-20/25 or such some worse! When you shoot a handgun leave both eyes open, they will compensate! I find this equaly the same with a rifle, leave both eyes open! With a hand gun or rifle you are just pointing it down range, then you put the front site in line with the rear site and pull trigger! Dont make it any harder than that! Do you close one eye when shooting your bow? If you have real problems with your natural optics then you might think scope! Bob |

I'd agree w/ Red Leg. When the SHTF, it doesn't really matter which hand or which eye you use, just as long as the other guy drops, and not you. If you're more worried about cutting holes in paper, then I'd still recommend trying both eyes/hands. Work w/ it both ways, until you feel more comfortable w/ a certain combo. I wouldn't get to comfortable by compensating w/ a scope, but it will prolly bring your groups in tighter. My .02 |

Depending on how bad your weak eye is, you may not be able to use an ACOG. They look like a black screen to me. I generally shoot with both eyes open, but for some reason I notice that I shoot just a little better when I'm shooting iron sights at longer ranges (300 out) if I close my off eye. All that is just a matter of degree and is something for you to discover about yourself. General concensus among competitive shooters is to shoot with your dominant eye, not hand. I agree. Just makes right-handed bolt actions a PITA to cycle quickly without removing the rifle from your shoulder. Edited to add: I keep both eyes open when shooting a scope. |
