I have a German 8mm Mauser that my grandfather managed to bring back from the European conflict after WWII. My question is, what is the grommeted hole in the stock for? Was this a manufacturing feature or is it of some tactical advantage? |
| The hole is for disassembling the firing pin assembly without breaking the tip of the firing pin. Put the tip of the firing pin in the hole and pull down on the shroud to compress the spring. Rotate the cocking piece 90 degrees and pull it off the back of the firing pin. Slowly release pressure on the shroud and remove the firing pin and spring. |
