i am looking at a used loopy vari-x3 4.5-14 scope with a mil dot reticle, is this a good scope?, i am tired of cheap poopoo that does not work, and am considering this one, is it like the ones the military uses, and what is the difference between it, and the long range models?

How much will you be paying for it? and do you need a coin to change windage, elevation...

But how do you pronounce "loopy"?

The long range models have 30mm tubes, and quite a bit more of windage and elevation adjustment.

It is a good scope.  I'd take a look at the Bushnell Elite 4200, Nikon Monarch and Weaver Grand Slam too.  They are cheaper and as good or better.

Heck...

Bag all of them...As a Leupy owner (4.5-14, 40 MM/AO)...

Look at the IOR Valdada's!

Best value/glass for your money!

550 for the scope, i do not know if it has to be adjusted with a coin, i also do not know the size of the tube, is it a good scope for varmint with a .223, how good would it be for long range?

Way too much $$$... www.swfa.com offered me 175.00 in trade!

Yup IOR/Valdada  ask swfa about them...

They can't be beat for the buck!

I just ordered the 10X tactical for 570...*******oops, I forgot to say*************

The IOR has German Glass (the best) and has an illuminated MilDot Reticle

Ask around, you'll see!

Excellent product! I have a V3 3.5-10x40 Tactical on my Remmy 700PSS.  Optics are great and the crisp feel when turning the knobs without loosing your cheek weld is a plus.  If you got the dough go for it, shop around though, you can find a deal.

FYI, most professional shooters prefer 10X for some reason.

They don't like variables over at least the perception of reliability issues.

They choose 10x mainly because the Marine Corps chose 10x as the best trade off between power and field of view.

Leupold's LR series is a really tough, reliable variable series that stands up nicely to abuse short of Military use.  For a varmint hunter or police scope, they are nearly ideal...but a little pricey.
My druthers would be for a 4.5-14 power Leupold LR.

You are correct about a straight 10x scope has fewer variables and all other things being equal more rugged.

I believe in that concept which is why my LeupyVXIII 4.5-14 resides on a single shot Browning 1885 Hi-Wall.  I had to buy Elevation and windage knobs ($60 bucks more as an aftermkt product)to have it work quickly in the field.

10x IOR on my AR10.

10x will be on my M1A. Depending on how the IOR works out will determine which scope I'll place on it.
